COURSES
- 10th Grade ELA Curriculum: “Exploring Arguments”
- How can we deconstruct and evaluate the arguments in nonfiction texts? How can we construct powerful and persuasive arguments in our writing? During our Saturday Academy classes, we will apply a critical lens to nonfiction texts as we identify techniques that writers use to present and support their arguments. We will assess how individual details and the text’s structure work to shape our understanding of the topic at hand. Additionally, we will work on developing and supporting arguments in our writing. We will use these skills to experience the process of writing as a form of inquiry that allows us to explore ideas and different points of view.
- 11th Grade ELA Curriculum: “Personal Statement Writing”
- In this course, we will focus on personal storytelling, with the goal of developing a personal statement for college applications next year. You will learn about personal statements, how to structure your statement, and you’ll have time to draft your statement. By the end of the course, you will have a draft of a personal statement that you can potentially use for your college application next year. Additionally, by the end of the course, you will have grown in your understanding of yourself as a writer, which will prepare you for college and beyond.
