Enterprise Knowledge (EK) is hiring for a full-time Taxonomy Consultant to join our growing Semantic and Knowledge Engineering Practice. This individual will design intuitive and user-centric experiences and information structures for a range of commercial clients. In addition to delivering information models, this Taxonomist will advise clients at varying levels of maturity on how to implement best practices and expand and scale their taxonomy programs. As with all of our positions, we are seeking independent thinkers with creative problem-solving skills.

Our office is located in Arlington, VA and will be Hybrid for those living within a commutable distance. EK will consider remote work if you reside in the following states: GA, IN, FL, MA, MI, NC, NJ, NY, PA, IL, CO and TX.

The Taxonomist will be responsible for advising clients on taxonomy strategy, and leading teams in the definition and execution of taxonomy design, implementation, and management to meet client goals and needs.

  • Facilitate stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into taxonomy solutions
  • Develop and maintain taxonomies and metadata schemas to organize information assets
  • Conduct audits of existing information structures and recommend improvements
  • Provide training and guidance to clients and prepare documentation on the value, use, and maintenance of taxonomies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure efficacy and longevity of taxonomy solutions

A successful candidate will also be able to clearly articulate their design decisions and the rationale behind their choices to a variety of business stakeholders. They will be experienced in defining the steps needed to design, implement and maintain large-scale taxonomies for complex business solutions. They are as comfortable working in spreadsheets as they are leading cross-functional meetings.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience developing and managing taxonomies, thesauri, and/or metadata in business environments with a strong understanding of taxonomy applications, design and management principles and best practices, semantic standards, and taxonomy management systems. 
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Science, Knowledge Management, Library Science, Management Information Systems, or other related field
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively on cross-functional teams and with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Hands-on experience with the leading semantic technologies such as PoolParty, Semaphore, TopBraid, etc. 

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience working directly with stakeholders, providing briefings, facilitating meetings, and presenting work products
  • Experience with usability testing and user experience optimization
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with AI-assisted taxonomy design methodologies
  • Working knowledge of semantic standards including SKOS and SPARQL

EK considers a broad range of factors in considering employee salary including a candidate’s skills, experience, education, certifications, past successes, and qualifications. A range for a starting pay for this role is $110,000 to $150,000 with most candidates likely to fall in the lower half. This range does not guarantee a specific salary and may be adjusted based on the needs of the company and the candidate’s qualifications.
