Description

As a QA Lead, you will work closely with the development team to ensure the quality and performance of IllFonic titles both in development and post launch. The role requires the QA Lead to assist the QA Manager in executing day-to-day test duties as well as help plan future test cycles. The job requires a strong background in QA and a desire to take on more responsibility in the QA process.

About the Company

Founded in 2007, IllFonic is an independent video game developer and publisher with studios in Lakewood, Colorado, Tacoma, Washington, and Austin, Texas. Our staff is composed of video game, music, and technology veterans redefining how indie and middle-market games are made and marketed. Current and past titles / collaborations include Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, Arcadegeddon, Predator: Hunting Grounds, Friday the 13th: The Game, Dead Alliance, Star Citizen, Evolve, Armored Warfare, and Nexuiz.

Responsibilities

  • Design, create, and implement test plans and other test materials and documentation
  • Track the time spent and progress on test plans with the assigned team
  • Perform ad hoc exploratory testing along with detailed testing based on documented test plans
  • Pivot the team proactively based on recent checkins, fixes and changes to the product
  • Regress bugs as they are completed by the development team
  • Maintain a knowledge of the product's design and scheduling changes to support QA effectiveness, focus and communication
  • Represent QA in cross department meetings
  • Hold regular team meetings to review project status and identify risks
  • Proactively discuss options for adjusting staffing, outsourcing, and recruiting plans
  • Utilize outsourcing vendors when used as an extension of the team
  • Recruit, train, and retain new QA testers
  • Create and maintain job descriptions and career tracks for each direct report
  • Able to motivate and manage a team of individual contributors
  • Hold weekly 1:1 meetings with each direct report to discuss performance and their career track
  • As scheduled by the company, perform professional and unbiased performance reviews for each direct report
  • Approving time off that does not lead to falling behind on work
  • Take the initiative to identify, prioritize, call-out, and suggest solutions to problems both big and small
  • Proactively make process improvements project wide, identify patterns and new solutions
  • Share your thoughts about how to make the company a better place to work, improve the creative process, and help deliver better games

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years professional experience in the video game industry with at least 3 shipped titles
  • Professional demeanor with a team-focused attitude & positive mentorship style
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, Google Workspace, XRay and/or other relevant test case management tools
  • Strong understanding of testing processes and procedures
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply that new knowledge immediately
  • Unreal Engine or equivalent experience
  • Strict use of code names and complete confidentiality of project information for as long as its required

Bonus

  • Strong multiplayer experience, particularly in asymmetric style
  • Certifications (ISTQB, QAI or other relevant QA & technical certifications)
  • Entry level C++, C#, Python or similar programming experience
