We are seeking a high energy, motivated Safety Specialist
The Safety Specialist will be responsible for fostering a culture of safety. The Specialist plans, implements, coordinates, and assesses occupational Safety programs throughout the organization to ensure OSHA and DOT compliance.
ESSENTIAL POSITION RESULTS
• Develop and interpret policies, practices, and procedures to protect employees and assets by ensuring compliance with DOT, company policies and procedures.
• Develops monthly “toolbox talk” program for drivers and night and day warehouse staff.
• Serves as a safety expert along with HR during compliance reviews and/or litigation.
• Maintains company's DOT Accident Register.
• Responsible for all post-accident drug testing and accident investigation.
• Manages random drug testing program quarterly.
• Serves as the liaison with the insurance company regarding any vehicle accidents.
• Oversee pre-employment screening of CDL drivers.
• Review and interpret MVRs against the company's Minimum Risk Requirements. Maintain NYS DMV LENS listing and take appropriate action as needed.
• Oversee the maintenance of DOT driver qualification files.
• Analyzes trends that increase accident frequency and develops and directs the implementation of training programs.
• Provides and is responsible for evacuation plan review and drill in all company-based employee locations and for all shifts.
• Responsible for monthly first aid kit replenishment at all locations.
• Reviews and addresses monthly facility inspection reports, requesting OPS for improvements as needed.
• Provide compliance and training for all required programs such as fire ext., lock out tag out, PIT training program, CPR and First Aid training etc.
• Regulatory compliance through policy implementation and document management: Analyze work and facility conditions throughout the company and advise and recommend changes to support policies and/or regulations and implement new programs.
• Oversee worker’s compensation, which includes investigating accidents and managing claims, conducting on-site safety audits, initiates employee involvement in safety programs via new employee orientations and ongoing training programs. Perform regular contact with employees on WC to ensure they remain engaged and motivated to return to work.
• Responsible for working with the DC managers to schedule regular Safety Committee meetings.
• Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 25% travel may be required. Position may require evening or overnight travel.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Empire Merchants North offers a competitive compensation package including:
Salary Range: $65,000 - $72,500 and annual bonus potential

QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Certifications, and/or licenses:
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent training and work experience required.
EXPERIENCE:
• One to three years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
• Proficient PC skills using MS Office and other various computer systems including presentation software.
• Must be a result-oriented professional with excellent verbal/written communication skills using diplomacy and discretion as well as strong customer service skills.
• Ability to multi-task, work independently and/or within a team, pay attention to detail and meet deadlines.
