At January, we're transforming the lives of borrowers by bringing humanity to consumer finance. Our data-driven products empower financial institutions to streamline their collections, providing borrowers with straightforward and compassionate solutions to regain financial stability and control over their lives. We're not just expanding access to credit. We're restoring dignity and paving the way for millions to achieve financial freedom.
About the role:
As a member of the Compliance & Money Ops team, you will be instrumental in building and maintaining the systems that ensure our operations are both compliant and efficient. You will work on building a centralized, continuous auditing system from the ground up and streamlining money movement within our organization. Your work will directly contribute to enabling all teams at January, particularly Legal & Compliance, to deliver a product and service that consistently meets and exceeds client expectations.
Your impact:
- Shape the future. Perform thorough code reviews and manage technical debt to maintain a robust, scalable codebase that propels our products forward
- Innovate daily. Champion innovation and best practices, pushing the boundaries of technical and product excellence
- Collaborate and thrive. Partner with our users, legal and compliance, customer success, and other engineering teams to foster a culture of teamwork and shared success
- Lead major projects. Tackle complex projects, deliver impactful solutions, and bring your ideas to life while aligning with our company goals
You might be a fit if you have:
- 5+ years experience as a software engineer
- Cloud Infrastructure Expertise: You should have extensive experience working with AWS or another cloud provider. You'll be comfortable deploying serverless applications, working within an event-driven architecture, and implementing service-oriented architecture/microservices.
- Internal API Design: Strong experience in internal API design and deployment is crucial. You will help the team stay on the cutting edge by enabling it to perform without needing to modify the code artifacts of other teams.
- Internal Tooling & B2B Software: Experience with internal tooling and a strong interest in B2B software will be valuable. You will be focused on building tools that support internal teams, with less emphasis on front-end development.
- Proactive Development: We are looking for someone who can turn a reactive team into a proactive one, with experience in brownfield development. You should be able to assess existing solutions, identify the underlying needs, and propose innovative improvements that push the boundaries of what our systems can achieve.
- (Bonus) Finance & Accounting Expertise: A strong background in finance and accounting is highly advantageous for this role, as it will enable you to ensure that our systems are fully aligned with financial regulations and industry best practices.
We encourage you to apply if you value:
- Genuine collaboration. We recognize and explicitly reward feedback, alignment, and learning from each other
- Managers as advocates. You’ll report to leaders invested in your growth and promotion, not just their own. Managers only succeed when their teams thrive
- Outcomes over output. We value finding ways to do more with less, working smart instead of burning out
- Product ownership. Engineers are owners, not mercenaries. Everyone plays a role in discovering, advocating for, and implementing product ideas
- Technical quality. We work collaboratively with product to ensure great outcomes without sacrificing quality. Sustainable development is a first class priority
