New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) is New Zealand's international business development agency. We are looking for a Business Growth Advisor to help New Zealand tech businesses land and expand in the US. This role offers exposure New Zealand’s most innovative tech companies and provides the opportunity to work alongside a diverse range of founders, CXOs and stakeholders across the globe.
What you’ll be doing: Te whakamahere
- You will support a portfolio of New Zealand technology companies to develop and execute their U.S go-to-market plans and accelerate their international growth.
- You’ll be helping them refine their Ideal Customer Profile (ICP), develop their Product Market Fit (PMF) validate their Serviceable Obtainable Market (SOM) and identify the best route to market growth.
- This is a coaching role and requires someone commercially savvy, with a healthy dose of EQ and a proven understanding of the growth phases of tech companies.
- We are looking for a tech professional who’s worked in one or more of these areas fintech, edtech, insurtech, proptech and/or all the other techs. If you have a consulting or advisory background in these areas, we’d love to hear from you.
What you’ll need to be successful: Ō Pūkenga
This role is ideal for an adaptable individual with experience in an advisory capacity within the technology sector. The candidate should be highly commercial, with a solid understanding of both startup and scale-up environments. A growth mindset is essential, along with the ability to build and leverage relationships effortlessly.
Flexibility is crucial, as the role involves working across multiple time zones. The right candidate will be empathetic, taking the time to listen, understand, and ask insightful questions before recommending a course of action. Strong influencing skills and the ability to work collaboratively are imperative.
You should be a natural relationship builder, leveraging your networks with ease. An enthusiastic “make it happen” attitude is a must, as is the ability to juggle multiple tasks and work across different time zones.
Ideally you also bring:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a commercial role, supporting the growth of a diverse portfolio of companies.
- Proven expertise in go-to-market strategies, marketing, channel partner management, business consulting, or enterprise sales.
- Established network within the tech industry.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and - adaptable to changing environments.
- Familiarity with or passion for New Zealand is a plus.
Please note, internally this role is known as a Business Development Manager (BDM).

Indicative salary range for this role is between approx. $140,000 - $160,000 per annum (inclusive of a metallic platinum medical insurance plan, including dental and vision coverage)
