Senior Backend Engineer (Kotlin) - POS

SumUp is a global player in FinTech supporting millions of merchants all over the world to be successful doing what they love. The SumUp POS is our free Point-of-Sale solution that merchants like cafes, shops, bars, or hair salons use to run and grow their business with features such as a product catalog, inventory management, business analytics, compliance support, loyalty features, and more. The POS is part of the  SumUp app that comes with our own register hardware, or can be used on tablet & phone devices.

In order to best serve these merchants, , our product development teams are growing and hiring Senior Backend Engineers. You will get to know the POS tribe through the hiring process and will be matched with one team during the hiring process. The teams hiring have different domains: Ecosystem & Partnerships, Fiscalisation, Catalog, or Reporting & Insights. Learn more about the job of a Senior Backend Engineer:

 

What you’ll do:

• Design and implement high-scale back-end services based on customer needs
• Use innovative techniques like Event Storming to design back-end services
• Maintain and evolve the POS ecosystem
• Participate in API design and implementation for both internal APIs and those exposed to our third-party integrators
• Help your team to deliver business value by taking decisions related to back-end and actively participating in the product discussions
• Provide good test coverage and improve code quality
• Have fun documenting the system using Documentation as Code techniques like C4 Model, Architecture Decision Records, or OpenAPI specs
• Collaborate with other software developers and DevOps engineers to ensure continuous deployment and support for the software that we deliver using Infrastructure as Code tools
• Actively participate in pair programming and code reviews with other software engineers

 

You’ll be great for this role if:

• You have delivered JVM-based services for at least 5 years and you are ready to work with Kotlin on a daily basis 
• You have experience with distributed systems and event-driven architecture
• You have experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
• You have strong knowledge of concurrency and how to deal with it
• You have knowledge of software and architecture design patterns
• You enjoy pair programming
• You have experience in cloud-based environments (we use AWS)

The following would be considered a plus:

• You have experience with Postgres or Cassandra
• You have experience with Kafka
• You worked with continuous integration tools like GitHub Actions
• You have experience with functional programming
• You have experience with Container Orchestration tools like Kubernetes
