Join us. But be you. At Deloitte, you’ll do more than just join something, you’ll add something.  You’ve found a place that values your curiosity, passion, and desire to work alongside brilliant people on the things that really matter. There really is only one question: What impact do YOU want to make?

·                Work alongside some of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most innovative technology companies and startups and learn about business
·                Work in a dynamic environment with a team of talented people who take pride in delivering great results
·                Access training, and development, with career opportunities encouraged

Our Tāmaki-makau-rau/Auckland based Tax team is looking for a Consultant/Senior Consultant to join their R&D team.

About this team:
The Deloitte Global investment & innovation incentives (Gi³) team works with some of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most innovative technology companies to help them secure government incentives for their R&D work. As a Senior Consultant in the team, you would keep up to date with the latest innovation trends and technology advancements, while being responsible for navigating our clients through the R&D Tax Incentive claims process. The Research & Development (R&D) Tax Incentive is a government policy initiative to drive innovation and increase the investment made by New Zealand businesses in R&D.

You will work closely with clients to understand their business and the science and technology challenges they face, identify R&D expenditure and decode the relevant tax rules while assisting clients to prepare applications and returns. You will work alongside other scientists, engineers, and advisors and be supported to develop your own career while having the opportunity to help develop others.
The Deloitte Gi³ team sits within the broader Deloitte Tax and Business Advisory team. Our people and culture make this a great place to work. Each of us is unique and valued for that, among the best and brightest in the business, and we take pride in our own achievements and the success of others. The culture is about inclusion, collaboration, high performance, and opportunity. All this translates into the best environment in which to drive your career forward.

Your typical day will include:

·                Meeting with clients to understand their businesses and the science or technology problems they are facing.
·                Managing numerous engagements across different technology areas concurrently.
·                Working collaboratively with the team and broader firm to ensure the best outcomes for our clients.
·                Supporting junior staff members to grow and develop their skills and knowledge.
·                Learning about different areas of science or technology or decoding the legislation that guides the RDTI.

Enough about us, let’s talk about you. You are someone with:

·                A science, pharmaceutical or engineering based degree with strong language and people skills who is interested in developing their commercial acumen, or
·                A post-graduate degree in a science or engineering discipline, or
·                A Commerce, Accounting or Law degree, with a keen interest in science and technology.
·                More than 3 years’ work experience in a consulting firm or industry.
·                The ability to communicate effectively and confidently, in both written and verbal form, and run highly technical conversations with clients.
·                Strong excel and modelling skills and a desire to understand financial statements.
·                Drive and motivation to succeed and to develop client and team management skills.
·                We will provide training to enable you to understand how the incentive fits within the New Zealand tax environment.
