We are looking for an exceptional community-oriented PHP developer / DevOps to join our Moodle Community team!

Fully flexible and working from anywhere in the European or APAC regions, this role is offered as a 6 month independent contractor role (with full time hours).

What your new job can look like…

As a valued member of the Community team, your focus will be on delivering tools that allow others to contribute to Moodle and participate in its development.

At Moodle, no two days will ever be the same, but most days in this role usually involve a mix of:

  • Crafting high quality code.
  • Designing and documenting improvements and new features in our Moodle community sites.
  • Conducting code reviews and providing feedback to authors.
  • Writing automated tests.
  • Building and maintaining quality relationships with the Moodle HQ team and Moodle Community members.
  • Contributing to the future direction of the Moodle software.
  • ...and having a laugh with your team!

Requirements

We'd love to meet you…

Especially if you have:

  • A deep sense of of the open source and free software culture.
  • Demonstrated experience with Moodle development (PHP, JS).
  • Strong programming experience in a medium to large scale development environment (PHP).
  • Knowledge of Moodle Architecture.
  • Experience using Git and Jira.
  • Knowledge of PHP, SQL, HTML5, CSS, Javascript.
  • Knowledge of web application security, performance and scalability.
  • Experience working with Web Services and RESTful applications.
  • Ability to organise your own workload in order to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Fluency in English.

It's a plus if you:

  • Have contributed to Moodle, especially with code (core or plugins).
  • Have experience writing unit tests and behat tests.
