At Gearset our goal is to build a finance team that not only ensures we’re reporting what and when we need to, but also provides financial insight and challenge to the rest of the business. We’re growing fast, both in revenue and the complexity of our financial activities, and we’re looking for a Financial Accountant to join the finance team as we support Gearset’s growth journey.

What’s the opportunity for a Financial Accountant at Gearset?

  • Become a key member of our small but growing finance team, able to support our day-to-day financial operations, our statutory reporting, and help drive financial strategy.
  • Be responsible for Gearset’s month-end close process (in close collaboration with the rest of the finance team) and the preparation of the monthly profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash-flow reports.
  • Support the Finance Manager with preparing and tracking performance against Gearset’s annual budget, including quarterly forecasting for our business units, revenue projections and forecasting expenditure.

What you'll achieve

  • Support the preparation of year-end accounts and be a key point of contact for our annual statutory audit.
  • Review monthly Balance Sheet Reconciliations performed by other members of finance.
  • Working with the support of Gearset’s external tax advisors, play a key role in Gearset’s international tax compliance.
  • Work with the Finance Manager to own the development and delivery of financial policies, guidelines, and financial controls to ensure regulatory compliance and create a ‘best in class’ finance function.
  • Own the delivery of ad-hoc projects to improve our financial reporting processes as Gearset scales, such as CO2 reporting, Gender Pay Gap reporting, and implementing a new ERP system.
  • Guide, coach, and help develop our Accounts Receivable team in building their financial knowledge.

About you

  • Qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with a working knowledge of FRS 102. Including revenue recognition and share based payments.
  • Knowledge of finance control best practices and the ability to find pragmatic solutions that balance the need for financial controls with realities of running a high growth, agile business.
  • The ability to challenge the status quo and proactively identify areas of potential improvement, collaborating with colleagues from across Gearset to design and implement a shared solution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a superb attention to detail and the ability to communicate complex financial topics to various stakeholders across the business
  • A self-starter, who is able to use their initiative and make things happen and is happy to get stuck in.

Great to haves

  • Experience working in a high growth technology business.
  • Experience in coaching and supporting other non-qualified members of finance.

Salary and benefits (the stuff you’d expect!)

  • Salary is £50k - £60k (depending on experience)
  • This is a full time opportunity, working Monday to Friday with the option of flexible home working (for most of us that looks like 2-3 days a week in the office)
  • Generous personal development budget for courses, conferences, or whatever is useful to your professional development in the role, of up to £1500 per year
  • Top-end hardware provided
  • Free lunch in the office
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (with the option to buy an extra 5 each year)
  • Company pension plan (matching up to 5%)
  • Bupa health care
  • Life Insurance & critical illness cover
  • Discounted gym membership, as well as a range of health and wellness benefits
If you think you've something special to offer, or if you've great experience but don't match every requirement, we'd still love to talk with you and learn more. We're committed to creating an inclusive environment and encourage you to apply.
