The Middlebury School of Hebrew is pleased to announce a limited number of openings for summer 2024 Hebrew instructors, in person on the Middlebury College campus in Vermont.  

We are looking for faculty members who have extensive experience teaching both Hebrew language and culture. Our programs take place in an immersive linguistic and cultural environment with rigorous daily classroom instruction. This is a unique opportunity to join a highly motivated community that is actively engaged in the teaching and learning of Hebrew, both inside and outside of class, 24/7. In addition to the salary, lodging and a complete meal plan will be provided. 

Please note that all 7 and 3-week program instructors are required to arrive to campus by 5:00 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024, and to teach for the entire duration of their program.  

Summer 2024 Faculty Dates: 

  • 7-week Immersion Program: June 26 - August 16, 2024 
  • 3-week Immersion/Lifelong Learner Program: June 26 - July 19, 2024 and/or July 24 - August 16, 2024 
  • Biblical Hebrew Program: July 23 - August 16, 2024 

 

The application deadline is Wednesday, December 6th, 2023. 

 

Qualifications 

The successful candidate should possess a minimum of an M.A., or a strong advanced degree, in second language acquisition, culture, or literature (credentials may also be considered), strong interpersonal skills, and demonstrated success working as a member of a Hebrew language instructional team. A candidate with a creative, dynamic approach, including advanced technology and computer skills, would be an excellent fit for the School of Hebrew.   

Application Instructions 

All applicants should submit a detailed cover letter which includes the following information: 

  • Your teaching background, including the number of years you have taught Hebrew, where you have taught and which levels. 
  • An explanation of your language teaching philosophy and how you would apply it to the School of Hebrew.  
  • A description of how you use technology in the language classroom. 
  • A list of the School of Hebrew language program(s) that you are applying to teach in from the following list: 
  • 7-week immersion 
  • Biblical Hebrew 
  • 3-week immersion 
  • 3-week Lifelong Learners track 
  • How you would contribute to our School of Hebrew co-curricular activities (please visit our website for information about our activities). 

Also needed are the following documentations with your application: 

  • A sample syllabus from a previous Hebrew language course you have taught.  
  • A sample lesson plan. 
  • Recent statistical information from student evaluations (if available)
