Camp Communications and Operations Intern, CNIB Lake Joe

Full Time, Contract

Location: CNIB Lake Joe (May – September), otherwise home-based

Reports to: General Manager | Manager, Community Engagement, CNIB Lake Joe

We're looking for a mission-driven Camp Communications and Operations Intern who is passionate about creating more accessible, inclusive, and equitable communities across Canada where people with low vision have unlimited opportunities and can experience life free from barriers and discrimination.

Your Impact at CNIB

  • Assist the CNIB Lake Joe team with the development and fostering of an inclusive, empowered culture where every team member – staff and volunteer – feels their contributions towards our mission are equally valued and respected.
  • Champion CNIB Lake Joe's high standard of client and customer service.
  • Understand and comply with CNIB's policies and procedures.
  • Collect, process and track personnel files for seasonal staff and submit to People & Culture team.
  • Collect, scan and submit all incident reports to General Manager for follow-up.
  • Track spending of the team by collecting, scanning and documenting receipts for all purchases. This will include gift cards and company provided credit cards.
  • Track vehicle usage by collecting and filing driver and/or vehicle logs.
  • Ensure vehicle paperwork is up-to-date and available in each vehicle.
  • Support the Guest Experience team with reception services and tend to guest needs.
  • Assist in generating timely, relevant and engaging content (e.g. participant stories, photos, videos, etc.) for promotional purposes.

Requirements

Who you are:

Education and Certifications

  • Enrolled in a recognized Business Certificate Program, or equivalent job-related experience.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience working in an office environment in an administrative role is considered a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of human resources, finance, marketing & communications or other similar field an asset. 
  • Strong customer service approach is essential.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Proven time management and organization skills; amenable to changing priorities, deadlines and procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Office 365 including word processing and experience working in a database environment, including queries.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Professional attitude, results oriented, self-directed and flexible.
  • Must be able to work independently, sometimes under pressure.
  • Current (within 6 months of start date) Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
  • Respects the importance of confidential information while effectively functioning as a team member or working independently.   
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.

Work Environment

  • This position will reside at CNIB Lake Joe during the program season from May – August and will share accommodations with other staff members. All housing and meals are provided at no cost. From September – March, this position is home-based.
  • This position may require the ability to work occasional overtime/flex time.
  • This position may have to deal with difficult situations or people. 
  • Minimum travel may be required.

Eligibility

CNIB Apprentice must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive)
  • Be a Canadian citizen, or permanent resident or a protected person as defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada; and
  • Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
