As a SQL Server Database Engineer (DBE) for AMS360 at Vertafore you will be integral in providing tangible, measurable improvements for customers. You will work with a skilled team of engineers and developers, including other DBEs and DBAs, across a large high-profile product. You will design and implement performant code in a large-scale Microsoft SQL Server production environment. Responsibilities  

Essential job functions included but are not limited to the following:  

• Transact-SQL (T-SQL): Produce and optimize complex T-SQL code, both new and existing. 
• Performance tuning: Analyze code, statistics, and execution plans to diagnose performance issues and identify areas for optimization. Participate in implementing performance improvements. 
• Documentation: Maintain and create technical documentation for database-related subject areas for internal use. 
• Standards: Maintain and implement standards and best practices for SQL code. 
• Code Review: Participate in SQL code review to ensure quality, performance, and adherence to coding standards.  
• Customer Support: Work with business users for production issues and provide system solutions. 
• Teamwork: Assist software engineers with the design and development of complex SQL queries and stored procedures, focusing on helping the team interact with the database as efficiently and productively as possible. 
• On Call: Participate in On Call rotation for critical issues. 

Required / What you’ll need to succeed 

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or similar field or related work experience 
• Work experience in database engineering, database administration, or related field 
• 3+ years of experience in T-SQL development 
• 1+ years DBE experience in T-SQL performance optimization 
• Knowledge of querying, normalization, transactions, indexing, and joins 
• Experience with relational database design 
• Experience with source/version control 
• Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot 
• Ability to multi-task and adapt to change 
• Desire and ability to learn technologies quickly  
• Good oral and written communication skills 

 

Preferred / It’s great if you have 

• 2+ years of dedicated experience in T-SQL development in MS SQL Server  
• SQL Server 2016+ development experience  
• 1+ years of Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud experience 
• 1+ years of DevOps experience 
• 1+ years of experience with database(s) other than SQL Server (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Oracle, etc.)  
• Experience with multi-tenant systems 
• Familiarity with C# and .NET programming 
• Familiarity with software development life cycle (SDLC) 
• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies 

Additional Requirements and Details

• Travel required up to 10% of the time.  
• Ability to work remote with a stable internet connection on an as needed basis  
• Located and working from an office location (when required)  
• Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds  
• Frequent repetitive hand and arm movements required to operate a computer  
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision (working on a computer, etc.)  
• Frequent sitting and/or standing
