Role Purpose
Control Risks is looking to hire an Analyst who will deliver research and analysis on political, regulatory, operational and security risks in Western Europe, with a particular focus on the UK and Spain. As part of the role you will develop and deliver bespoke consulting projects on key issues to our clients, and work in close collaboration with other analysts and senior consultants across the team. The successful applicant will also regularly contribute to Control Risks’ analytical coverage of political, regulatory, operational or security risks in Western Europe – and, when required, other European countries – through our online and retainer services.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Online and retainer services
- Contribute to daily updates analysing the risk implications for clients of relevant developments in the region, focusing on Western Europe, especially the UK and Spain.
- Update and maintain online country background sections and develop and update country scenarios.
- Respond to subscriber and client queries pertaining to the region.
- Carry out in-depth research to write high-quality research notes on a range of topics relevant to the region on a regular basis.
- Actively participate in team discussions about Europe issues, risk ratings and topical developments in the region.
Consulting engagements
- Undertake research for bespoke projects and independently manage medium-sized projects; for complex, non-templated projects play a central role in delivering such projects under the direction of more senior consultants and analysts, and develop solutions to complex and complicated client questions.
- Scope and write proposals for work on the region.
- Support the development of new capabilities on the back of our bespoke consulting work.
- Collect, process, analyse and visualise relevant data from a broad range of sources.
- Think creatively about the presentation of report work and analysis in imaginative and client-friendly ways.
- Ensure that all consulting work is delivered to a high standard and that it meets client requirements and expectations, consistently demonstrating high attention to detail.
Networking and sources
- Liaise regularly with Control Risks offices across the EMEA region and collaborate closely across service lines.
- Develop and maintain government, academic, journalist and business contacts in Western Europe, especially the UK and Spain.
- Maintain a high level of regional and country expertise through reading, research, attendance at relevant seminars and research trips.
- Work with more senior colleagues to develop client relationships.
- Have readiness to travel as required.
Requirements
Knowledge and experience:
Essential
- Knowledge and understanding of key political, regulatory, operational and security risk issues in Western Europe, especially in the UK and Spain.
- Practical experience of living, working or travelling in the region.
- You must have significant, recent and relevant professional working experience (i.e. in an analytical role).
- Ability to undertake research into a wide range of different issues within the region and to understand and draw out the implications for clients.
- Familiarity with business-focused research and consulting.
- Academic or professional training in political, business or security risk analysis.
Preferable
- Previous experience of risk consulting.
- Experience of working with national government/political parties in the UK or Spain and/or the European institutions.
Qualifications and Specialist Skills
Essential
- University degree (or equivalent experience) in relevant discipline (for example, social sciences).
- Full professional proficiency in English and at least one other European language.
- Ability to write clearly, concisely and authoritatively to tight deadlines, while interacting with colleagues and clients in sometimes challenging situations.
- Proven qualitative research skills across a variety of topics.
- Previous professional experience of risk analysis/consulting on the region.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.
Preferable
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in relevant discipline (for example, social sciences).
- Full professional proficiency in Spanish.
- Ability to identify and interpret events and developments of potential interest or concern to Control Risks’ client base.
