Organization Overview: Safe Passages is a non-profit organization committed to disrupting the cycle of poverty by supporting our local community. We serve over 5,000 children and families annually through our strategies that span across the life spectrum of birth through young adulthood, including Early Childhood, School Linked Services, Juvenile Justice, and Career Pathways. Safe Passages’ work is based on the premise that access to educational opportunities, health services, and family support should not be dictated by race or socio-economic status and that healthy and supported youth are better prepared to learn and succeed.
Program Overview: AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program that gives you the opportunity to make a difference in your life and help strengthen schools, students, families, and communities they serve by participating in service and volunteer activities. AmeriCorps VISTA Members receive a monthly spend and have the opportunity to earn an education award in exchange for one year of service.
Position Activities:
This position supports the development of Family Resource Centers (FRCs) at schools in low-income communities. FRC AmeriCorps VISTA members are embedded in schools where they identify and connect families with crucial resources, such as access to healthy food, healthcare services, child development programs, and other essential support systems. The mission of the Safe Passage's FRCs is to foster strong connections between families and schools, promoting a supportive environment for students and their families.
1. Enhance referral systems by recruiting volunteers and collaborating with school leaders to streamline processes.
2. Acquire resources and expand FRCs by updating needs assessments, implementing volunteer management systems, and transitioning to sustainable models.
3. Expand partnerships and build capacity by providing support to school sites and tracking resulting activities and outputs.
Schedule: This is a full-time position requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday during standard business hours, with occasional evening and weekend commitments as needed to fulfill project requirements and community engagement activities.

Minimum Eligibility: VISTA members must be 18 years or older (no upper age limit) at the time of starting service and must hold one of the following citizenship or legal residency statuses: US citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident (i.e. Green Card status), and persons legally residing within a state. Additionally, VISTA members must pass a background check and submit a TB test and proof of COVID vaccination to be served with Safe Passages.
