Writes or edits complex technical materials such as maintenance manuals, troubleshooting guides, schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, illustrated parts breakdowns, and inspection instructions. May oversee preparation of illustrations, diagrams, schematics and charts; and assist in layout work. Review drawings, maintenance guide publications and illustrated Parts Breakdown and periodically review manufacturer’s drawings for information pertinent to development of operation, maintenance and support requirements and procedures. Analyzes data to determine revision, correction, and change requirement within the scope of work defined by customer requirements. Analyze schematics, system diagrams, wiring diagrams, and troubleshooting procedures for correctness and utility in customer's operating environment. Develops procedural information in consonance with modifications and customer-driven practices and methodologies. Confers with customer representatives to establish technical specifications, determines specific or general subject material to be developed, and resolved problems with developing and publishing subject material. May review drafts prior to final production. May select or recommend graphics, drawings, diagrams, pictures, and charts to illustrate manual. Provide knowledge and experience to assist with Technical Order (TO) development and maintenance to include reviewing and updating data for accuracy and usability (electrical diagrams and system TOs), providing Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) activities and tracking TO updates and TCTO accomplishment. Assist with analysis, authoring and verifying of existing material for conformance to new specifications, processes, and maintenance practices. Research technical orders and source data to determine applicable Technical Orders, Support Equipment, special tools, consumable items, bulk items and Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory equipment required to perform maintenance repair on aircraft. Review and recommend approval or disapproval of technical content on source data submittal for technical order changes. Review presentation methodologies (both peper and electronic) for suitability to customer's operating environment and make recommendations to improve usability.
Knowledge of electrical and avionics theory and maintenance practices, particularly for communications and offensive systems; Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar; Knowledge of design techniques, principles, tools and instruments involved in the production and use of precision technical plans, drawings, and models including Auto-Cad; Knowledge and understanding of electrical/electronic symbology per ANSI Y.32. Knowledge and understanding of aerospace practices for change management including engineering change packages and modifications, including how applicability and effectivities are documented.
Knowing how to find information and identifying essential information; Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents; Communicating effectively with others in writing as indicated by the needs of the audience; Finding ways to structure or classify multiple pieces of information; Identifying and articulating multiple methods of finding and communicating technical information in an electronic environment.
Ten (10) years experience with military maintenance support requirements and technical documentation.
Minimum of five (5) years of maintenance experience with USAF aircraft, electrical and avionics systems. Prior Department of Defense experience preferred.
