Pay Range: $15.45 - $19.45 per hour

Workdays & Hours: FLSA Nonexempt part-time position, working a maximum of 19 hours per week for 6 months. Flexible work hours as approved and agreed upon by supervisor between the hours of 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday – Friday.

A Cybersecurity Intern - IT Security position is available with the City of Fort Worth IT Solutions’ Information Security department and reports to the Sr. Information Security Manager. The Cybersecurity Intern - IT Security assists in proactively monitoring, evaluating, and maintaining security policies, providing end-user support for security-related applications, analyzing and reporting key performance indicators, and writing documentation such as work instructions or policies. The working environment for this position is primarily office-related.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Working towards a specialization in a vocational field, High School, Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a related field of study.
  • No previous work experience required.
  • The incumbent must be enrolled in a formal course or related field of study and cannot be in the position longer than 12 months.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Candidate selected for hire must pass a Criminal Background Check for CJIS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An interest/knowledge of computers, operating systems, and providing customer service
  • Ability to communicate technical topics clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • An interest in working with public agencies in IT Security related field

The IT Information Security Intern’s job responsibilities include: 

  • Learning to develop and build strong customer relations with city departments and external agencies
  • Learning to troubleshoot end-user issues with security-related applications
  • Learning to perform entry-level security analyst tasks such as vulnerability scans, trouble ticket remediation, and data analysis
  • Assisting investigation of security issues related to assigned division
  • Assisting Cybersecurity Analysts develop and write policies, work instructions, and other documentation
  • Assisting Cybersecurity Analysts analyze and report key metrics information

Physical Demand

Sedentary Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Working Conditions 

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions.

Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) Background Check

Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.  Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position:  Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.
