Job Title: Apprentice Design Engineer

Summary of Role

Working in a Design team within a regional office you will contribute to the design and programming of sprinkler systems installation projects. You will gain valuable experience in working within our Main Contracts or Small Works Teams ranging from commercial offices, warehouses, distribution centres, retail, life sciences, pharmaceutical through to data centres and airports – whilst being supported and developed by our team of experienced professionals around you.

What you will be doing;

• Developing the design of the sprinkler system through a process of co-ordination with clients and other service contracts through to a final scheme.
• Contributing to the design programme by monitoring the scheme against the construction programme and specification requirements.
• Issuing all completion documents and certification.
• Coordinate information from all relevant parties for the preparation of fully designed working drawings including site, architects, consultants, builders and other trades.
• Accompany the Design Engineer to site meetings where design matters are on the agenda.
• Support with the preparation of complete working drawings in accordance with the appropriate design codes including establishing pipe sizes by hydraulic calculations.
• Using design drawings, you you list off materials for various purposes including material procurement, estimating of variations, schedule of rates etc.
• Coordinate the issuing of drawings / quantities of materials listed to suppliers / subcontractors for procurement purposes.
• Ordering of materials and monitor and maintain levels of equipment.

Desired Skills, Qualities, and Experience (all essential):

• Minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above. A grade 5 in Maths and Science is required for this role.
• Enthusiastic and passionate about a career in engineering.
• Eager to develop new skills and knowledge in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
• Good level of Attendance, self-discipline and time management. Meeting deadlines, managing multiple tasks effectively.
• There is a minimum age requirement to be at least 16 years old by 1^st September 2025.

About the apprenticeship

You will study towards either a Level 3 or Level 4 Construction Design & Build Technician Apprenticeship which will be completed over 24 to 36 months (the Level will depend on your existing qualifications).

When not studying, you will work alongside our experienced design engineers delivering a real design engineering role. You may be expected to travel to different sites within a geographical region. You will need to manage your time and commitments well to ensure that you are able to complete your assignments whilst delivering a highly valued role.

GRADES: If you are on predicted grades, your offer will be conditional on achieving the required grades before the apprenticeship start date.

The recruitment process for this programme will take place in March & April 2025

• Role Start Date: August 2025

Note: You may be required to complete a DBS check, at either basic or enhanced level, depending on the location you will be working in.
