Job Description
The Education Sales (Road) Representative is an outside sales position that serves music educators by helping them select merchandise, assisting them throughout the sales process, and by routinely following up to service their ongoing school music needs.
An integral part of West Music in meeting our mission of “Play now. Play for life” our Road Representatives are the face of West Music for our school music customers. By building personal connections and developing and maintaining strong business relationships with school Music Directors/Instructors, our Road Representatives will be responsible for meeting sales goals, generating business for our local repair shops, and providing educational opportunities for potential school music customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as business needs dictate:
- Develop, maintain, and expand West Music’s customer base by maintaining key customer relationships with Music Educators and following up on leads to meet sales and growth targets.
- Make scheduled sales calls and visits within an established territory to school-based Music Educators to provide instruments, accessories, music, and general classroom music-related items.
- Organize and conduct school rental events that include:
- Scheduling events,
- Educating customers about the benefits of working with West Music through individual and group presentations,
- Assisting Directors in instrument testing/selection.
- Perform administrative duties including generating/processing paperwork for sales, rentals, and repairs.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and conferences, reviewing industry publications, and establishing personal networks.
- Provide feedback to the Merchandise Management staff regarding accessories, musical instruments, and other items customers request.
- Maintain security of company property while traveling and representing West Music.
Education, Experience & Qualifications –
Required Qualifications:
- Must have knowledge and playing experience with band or orchestra instruments. Solid knowledge of musical instrument brands, accessories, and printed music is required.
- A comfort level with public speaking is required. The Road Representative will routinely speak to small to large groups of prospective customers to generate sales.
- The ability to be insured as a driver of West Music vehicles is required.
- Occasionally working non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Music Education, Music Performance, or Music Business; or a combination of education and related experience is desired.
- Previous experience in outside or retail sales.
