Compression Analyst Senior 

Reports to:  Technical Services Manager Last Update:   May 11, 2021 

Overview: Analyzes operations, failures and maintenance to reduce breakdowns, tear downs, and other significant maintenance needs. Recommends operational parameters to diagnose potential problems (vibrations, mechanical results, performance, etc.), and improvements to safety practices. Develops compression equipment analysis programs.   Performs minor corrective actions involving operating, mechanical and diagnostic testing using Windrock technologies and advance vibration analysis. 

 

Essential Duties: (Approximate % of Time Spent)      

- Performing vibration testing. (50%) 

- Developing vibration reports. (25%) 

- Working directly with service manager. (10%) 

- Technical and HSE training. (15%) 

Non-Essential Duties: Performs other duties as assigned. 

All employees shall be in compliance with the Archrock Health Safety and Environmental Policy and local, statutory and/or regulatory requirements at all times.

 

Skills and Abilities:   

Ability to: 

- Perform all essential duties. 

- Utilize advanced equipment, programs, and electronics to collect and analyze data to determine optimal performance levels and conditions. 

- Apply technical, mechanical and engineering skills to understand service, equipment, processes and information required. 

- Visit sites and equipment that failed to inspect equipment, discuss with stakeholders, collect data and perform fault analysis. 

- Determine the root cause of poor or exceptional performance leading to operational controls and diagnostic tools, completes appropriate documentation and communicates internally. 

- Interpret and communicate advanced schematics, blueprints, operations manuals, and other operational information. 

- Read and apply highly technical information and requirements regarding:  Reciprocating and Rotary Compression, Field Operations, Emissions Standards, Vibration / pulsation, Equipment failure analysis, Package design (P&ID/drawings), Project Management, Field and shop technical support, Warranty and startup support and New product evaluation. 

-Escalate requirements as appropriate, work to resolve delays, and ensure coordination among groups. 

- Display interpersonal skills to influence and motivate others and respond to changing environments by being flexible and resourceful. 

-Develop equipment analysis programs or procedures, specifications, parameters, testing requirements, HSE improvements and evaluate success. 

- Develop proper sampling techniques to monitor the overall status of the fleet. 

- Develop reports, findings, and results of fleet status. 

- Provide verbal and hands-on training and guidance to operations, such as interpreting program requirements, outlining the purpose of programs, and ensure proper application. 

- Develop compression equipment analysis programs. 

- Establish and execute programs for condition monitoring and diagnostics of machines including spectral, time waveform, phase analysis and orbit analysis. 

- Perform minor corrective actions. 

- Analyze pulsation in gas and liquid piping systems. 

- Analyze pulsation control in reciprocating compressor systems. 

- Perform video scope and boroscope inspection. 

- Effectively utilize vibration control techniques and best practices.   

- Develop or recommend appropriate operating procedures, technical libraries, best practices, and materials to ensure operational efficiency and technical support resources for the field. 

Proficiency with:   

- Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.), Ariel Performance, and Windrock. 

 

Knowledge: 

- Vibration Institutes Category II / III Body of Knowledge. 

- Extensive mechanical knowledge, components, parts and function of different engine and compressors CAT, Waukesha, Dresser, Ariel, Ajax, others. 

- Advanced understanding of all production equipment. 

 

Minimum Education and Certification: 

- High school diploma or equivalent. 

- Vibration Institute’s Category II Vibration Analyst Certification. 

- Windrock Compressor Analyst Level III, Windrock Engine Analyst Level III or equivalent certifications from other recognized bodies or authorities. 

 

Minimum Experience: 

- Typically at least 10 years Field Operational experience. 

- Minimum 5 years’ experience performing Vibration and Reciprocating Analyst duties. 

- Extensive analysis experience working with engines Caterpillar 3400, 3500, 3600 series, White Superior, Waukesha, Ajax, others. 

- Experience with vibration control techniques and best practices. 

 

Leadership: 

-  Expected to serve as a resource to others for knowledge transfer, training and checking work. 

-  May occasionally lead a team.

- Regularly required to stand, walk, and bend with good balance, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. 

- Regularly required to sit, perform repetitive duties, use a PC and to talk and hear. 

- Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. 

- Regularly required to lift, move and carry up to 10 pounds.

- Provides solutions to a diverse scope and range of complex problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. 

- Solutions frequently require evaluation of variable factors, new approaches, planning and resourcefulness. 

- Expected to regularly identify opportunities and to provide ideas, methods and innovations to enhance teamwork, efficiency and quality within the scope of role. 

 

Impact: 

- Actions and decisions impact costs and schedule performance in assigned area.
