Newsweek is the global media organization that has earned audience time and trust for more than 90 years. Newsweek reaches 100 million people each month with thought-provoking news, opinion, images, graphics, and video delivered across a dozen print and digital platforms. Headquartered in New York City, Newsweek also publishes international editions in EMEA and Asia.

Newsweek is seeking a full-time reporter and editor who can contribute workplaces coverage to its Rankings content. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a collaborative spirit — someone who is capable of multitasking and problem-solving, is comfortable writing and editing several articles on a weekly basis, and who has impressive contacts that can help us paint a portrait of the modern workplace

We need a seasoned professional who can call upon qualified experts and sources for access and interviews, come up with story ideas around the latest innovations in workplace culture, and spot trends in Newsweek’s work-related Rankings (such as the Most Loved Workplaces in America).

Involvement with events will also be crucial to this role. The Workplaces Editor will be expected to moderate panel discussions, conceive of different industry gatherings that Newsweek could host, and identify the key players that should be in attendance. C-suite contacts are a must

Key Responsibilities:

  • Finding and researching potential story subjects and editorial contributors
  • Communicating with contributing writers and editors
  • Brainstorming and pitching new initiatives and projects
  • Hosting and moderating panel discussions about workplace culture
  • Conceiving of different events Newsweek could host, centered on key issues and themes related to workplace culture
  • Attending external conferences and events as needed, to both network and raise Newsweek’s profile
  • Assisting the managing editor of Rankings content in wrangling copy, photos, and any other editorial materials
  • Reporting, writing, and editing multiple pieces on a weekly basis
  • Writing and editing a weekly newsletter that covers the workplace landscape
  • Any other reasonable duties to meet the needs of the business

Requirements:

  • Must be available to work weekdays, from 9 a.m. ET to 5 p.m. ET
  • Must have at least seven years' of experience working in a digital newsroom
  • Must have a proven track record of doing impactful pieces that deal with work culture

Salary range: $90,000 - $100,000

Newsweek is an equal opportunity employer. We seek employees of diverse backgrounds and are committed to providing an inclusive, equitable and respectful workplace.
