JOB SUMMARY
The Plating Technician is a position in the field of plating and electroplating. Plating is a process that applies hard nickel and e-nickel plating to surfaces of turbine engine components. The Plating Department accomplishes this by submerging a component into a liquid bath and introducing electrical current to the host metal. The coating builds up over the course of hours and then removed.
This position will work alongside experienced plating technicians that will allow continuous interaction of techniques, skill knowledge, print reading and interpretation. You will become familiar with various types of processes, equipment, and learn about safety and quality standards while developing your technique all under the supervision of a professional team of technicians. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Through our extensive in-house training program, the successful applicant will be instructed via a series of computer based and hands-on training, the necessary skills of the position.
1. Evaluate incoming parts and determine what cleaning, plating or other operations are required.
2. Interpret and follow work instructions to ensure the proper process is applied to the correct part features.
3. Clean parts of any contaminants using cleaning agents and chemicals prior to the plating process.
4. Mask part in preparation for plating using manufacturer recommendations and internal work instructions.
5. Select and set-up necessary racks and/or fixtures for the initiation of the plating operation.
6. Prepare plating bath based on:
a. Current density.
b. Conductivity.
c. Temperature.
d. Metal concentration.
e. Agitation
f. Other parameters per work instructions.
7. Remove masking after coating and prepare parts as necessary for the next process.
8. Maintain equipment as required, including performing daily checks and completing logbooks or other records when required.
9. Frequently perform process tests for quality control.
10. Able to pass lab tests for specific coatings and specific jobs.
11. Use handheld measuring devices to ensure proper application of coating.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Two years’ work experience in a manufacturing setting.
2. Ability to read, interpret, and follow work instructions and accurately document processes and findings.
3. Experience in the use of general shop math.
4. Experience in the use of general hand tools, power tools and the use of overhead cranes.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
1. High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.
2. Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
3. Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
4. Careful attention to detail.
5. Capable of handling multiple tasks
WORK ENVIRONMENT
1. Work in varying positions from time to time. Stand and/or sit for portions of the shift. Move parts (>50 pounds) using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods. Move less heavy parts (<50 pounds) with or without hoists, slings, or carts.
2. This position has pre-employment testing requirements that may require fitness for duty testing (including respirator fit test) and a vision exam.
3. Use of safety and personal protective equipment is mandatory under some conditions. The following may or may not be required.
a. Ear plugs.
b. Safety glasses.
c. Uniform.
d. TyVek jumpsuits.
e. Respirators.
4. Exposure to dust and heat.
5. Use powered and hand-held tools frequently.
