Job Summary:
Reports directly to the Medical Clinic Operations Manager and responsible for providing professional nursing care for clinic patients following established standards and practices. Also
provides assistance to physicians and staff in coordinating patient care, and functions as primary liaison between patients, staff and physician. A specialist in the health care field that
administers care and support for patients undergoing cancer treatments under the supervision of doctors who are specialized in cancer treatment strategies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provides skilled nursing services in accordance with the orders of a physician and under a plan of care.
• To administer a variety of infusion therapies including chemotherapy drugs on an outpatient basis.
• Makes the initial evaluation visit and records the health needs of the patient.
• Monitor and record patient response or results to treatment protocols for physicians
• Provide education to patient and families on the treatment variety and procedures related to their condition/diagnosis
• Acts as coordinator of the health care team in order to maintain the proper linkages to provide the necessary care on continuing basis.
• Provides reports to the patient’s physician about the patient under care when the patient’scondition changes or there are deviations from the plan care.
• Coordinate with the interdisciplinary team in planning the care of the patient
• Attends inter-disciplinary team conference. Participates in in-service programs and staffing meetings.
• Participates in on-call services for weekends, holidays and evenings on a rotating basis at an additional on-call rate.
• Performs other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Education and Experience:
1. Graduate of Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing; License is required
2. Preferred: Minimum of 2-year experience with impressive track record in providing professional nursing care for clinic patients following established standards and practices. Must also have thorough capability in providing assistance to physicians and staff in coordinating patient care and functions as primary liaison between patients, staff and physician.
3. Have attended chemotherapy and biotherapy course class. Current in BLS certification. ACLS and PALS certification is encouraged.
4. Must have the appropriate level of behavioral maturity and patience in handling patients.
5. Must have the diplomacy and tact in handling difficult and irate patients.
6. Very good interpersonal relationship skills and can work and relate well with co-employees, patients and customers.
7. Outstanding communication skills and persuasiveness, especially the ability to communicate instructions and procedures for treatments, keeping the patients and giving them the desired level of comfort and confidence.
8. Must have strong sensitivity to the needs and anxieties of patients and the ability to motivate patients to undergo treatments and/or procedures.
9. Strong ethics and a high level of personal and professional integrity.
10. Knowledgeable of federal and state laws and requirements relating to healthcare management.
11. Computer literate and very highly proficient in using MS office programs.
