We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Data Engineer Practice Lead to further expand and strengthen our Data & Cloud Engineering team. You will be part of the top company management, owning the data engineering unit’s P&L, with a unique ability to influence and shape the company’s future direction.
Responsibilities
As a Data Engineering Practice Lead, you will be the ultimate data engineering leader at Visium and have a myriad of exciting responsibilities, such as:
- Develop and communicate a vision for the data engineering practice that aligns with company objectives, leverages emerging trends for growth, and fosters a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Engage with potential and existing clients to understand their business needs and outline how we can solve their challenges & provide value
- Ensure the business unit performs well and grows over time
- Provide technical guidance to the team on complex data transformation initiatives
- Collaborate with sales and marketing to present our services, prepare proposals, and present capabilities, while building and maintaining strong client relationships to ensure satisfaction and long-term client relationships.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality data engineering projects by overseeing project management, resource allocation, and implementing best practices to meet client expectations and deadlines.
- Encourage and oversee the development of new data engineering methodologies, tools, and services.
- Manage team performance, including setting objectives, conducting performance reviews, and promoting professional development.
- Recruit, train, and mentor data engineering and other team members.
- Work closely with other business units within the consultancy to integrate data engineering capabilities into broader service offerings.
- Collaborate with technology partners and vendors to enhance the practice’s capabilities.
- Ensure data engineering projects comply with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
Requirements
- Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering or closely related field, with a progression from hands-on technical roles to managerial or leadership positions
- Experience in leading and managing data engineering teams, including hiring, training, and mentoring team members.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex, large-scale data engineering projects from conception through to completion, including budget management, timeline adherence, and stakeholder communication.
- Technical Expertise: A deep understanding of data architecture, database management, ETL processes, big data technologies, and cloud services. Hands-on experience with data engineering tools and technologies is crucial.
- Client Acquisition & Engagement: A track record of successful client acquisition and engagement in a consulting environment, including requirements gathering, solution design, and stakeholder management.
Additional Qualifications
- Industry Certifications: Certifications related to data engineering, big data, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) or project management (PMP, Agile) are a Plus
- Communication Skills: Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral

- Fluent in English and German or French
