Job Description:
- A Mechanical engineer supports the Mechanical engineering team for a variety of projects from the concept phase through detail design, manufacturing, and commissioning.
- They are proficient in reading, modifying existing, and creating new mechanical 2D and 3D CAD drawings and assemblies.
- They support the engineering team in interpreting specifications and selecting components to meet performance requirements.
- They can take small portions of a larger project and work independently to deliver within time and budget.
- They help create and manage the BOM but do not make releases.
- They can assist in checking drawing packages but do not release drawings.
Responsibilities: - Coordinate with other departments such as Project Management, Manufacturing, and Purchasing to ensure proper components are purchased and assembled to meet the project timeline and budget.
- Communicate with customers to determine design requirements and specifications for a project and participate in regular design reviews to ensure those requirements are being met.
- Author mechanical design and system documentation including specifications, detail and assembly drawings, BOMs, sequence of operations, etc.
- Develop custom mechanical solutions in both team and lone environments.
- Identify tools and techniques that will benefit the project.
- Research and identify potential system components.
- Conduct projects with a high level of professionalism while meeting and/or exceeding our clients' technical and timing expectations.
- Work within the predefined project budget and timing requirements.
- Produce a final deliverable drawing package made to customer specifications and industry standards.
- Troubleshoot and fix design and manufacturing issues with the Project Manager and Manufacturing Team.
- Be able to back up engineering decisions using data and engineering analysis.
Requirements: - 1+ years of mechanical design experience; 3+ years preferred.
- Competency in rotating tooling design and rotor dynamics simulation preferred.
- Competency in FEA preferred.
- Competency in TVA preferred.
- Understanding and experience with detail and assembly drawing checking process.
- GD&T and detailing knowledge and experience.
- AutoCAD 2D and Inventor 3D competency (or equivalent).
- Microsoft Excel advanced user lookup, conditional formatting, charts, data validation.
Preferred Qualifications: - Machine tool and manufacturing process knowledge and experience.
- Experience designing rotating tooling.
- Inspection skills including quality verification using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Motivated, with ability to work with minimal guidance.
- Working in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Capable of working on multiple projects.
- Strong attention to detail.
Education: - Bachelor's degree in ME (or equivalent experience).
