Under the general direction of the physician (Cardiologist/Radiologist), will assist by scrubbing procedures or monitoring physiologic and hemodynamic data, as related to diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures performed in the cardiovascular lab. Ensures procedure room is adequately prepared for the procedure. Monitors par level of all instruments and supplies. Participates in departmental staff meetings and performance improvement activities and the training of new staff. Assists in all aspects of invasive and noninvasive cardiac procedures.
Responsibilities
1. Always accurately checks supplies for expiration dates. All expired equipment is identified in a timely manner. Supplies are orderly and clean. Ensures that par levels of all required supplies and radiographic equipment are maintained, stored and utilized.
2. Always verifies correct identification of patients. All films, medical record components are properly identified for each patient. Verifies all consents and low risk criteria.
3. Minimum of patient concerns is expressed. Assists in preparing patients for procedure. Assists patients in procedure to maintain maximum comfort and safety. Educates patients on procedure pre and post.
4. Prepares procedure room. Lays out necessary supplies prior to procedure.: Turnover time is kept to within 15 minutes. Scrubs with cardiologists, demonstrates familiarity with individual cardiologists preferences.: Maintains aseptic surgical technique throughout invasive procedures and maintains universal precautions. Scrub tech skills include: LHC, RHC, PTCA, STENT, PTCRA, PTMR, TEC.
5. Maintains accurate and complete records. Ensures proper completion of report/documentation, including X-ray requisitions, film labels, etc. Properly handles Cine Films (including mailing & retrieving films)
6. Maintains accurate and complete procedural logs and/or technical notations. Accurately obtains, calculates and analyzes Hemodynamic data.
7. Identifies equipment problems and safety hazards and takes appropriate action to initiate repairs: Understands the mechanics of operation of the various CCL systems; able to eventually troubleshoot problems and correct identified deficiencies. Maintains downtime log.
8. Follows policy and procedure for operation, troubleshooting, service contact, quality control and archival system.: Demonstrates ability to use and care for all technical equipment and supplies including x-ray/film processing equipment.
9. Demonstrates clinical competency.: Maintains IABP Certification. Effectively passes Monitor Technician Certification/Annual Telemetry Review.
10. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience
1. ARRT-R and license as required by State or Certified Cardiovascular Technologist (CCT) or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) required.
2. Previous experience in a Cardiovascular Lab; preferred.
3. Cardiovascular technologist training program with emphasis in invasive cardiology and hemodynamic monitoring preferred.
4. BCLS (AHA) required upon hire and maintain current.
5. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS); required within 30 days of hire.
6. Proficient computer skills.
