The role

We are seeking a Senior Product Designer to join our UK-based “Legals” and “Distressed” cross functional teams. To be effective, you don’t need any knowledge of the Legal or Distressed industries, but you should be eager to learn and excited to dive deep into these product areas.

Legals is our suite of popular AI-powered tools that empower users to quickly understand huge legal contracts called Offering Memorandums. These contracts are at the centre of the Leverage Finance industry. Using our tools, users can easily pull out key terms, decipher what an OM allows, and compare to other OMs. Your role will be to help to elevate this existing Legals product by investigating user needs, adding new user-facing functionality, and improving our internal tools. 

Distressed is a new opportunity for 9fin, focussed on companies who are at risk of financial difficulty. To our clients, these distressed companies might present big risks or lucrative investment opportunities. As a Senior Product Designer, you’ll join a newly formed team, and work closely with a PM and Engineers to shape the strategy and creative direction of our new Distressed data products.

Every day is different, but here are a few things you might have worked on recently if you were already part of the team: 

• Collaborating with a PM to design a production-ready MVP for a brand new Dockets product. 
• Making a prototype of your Dockets idea, then running user calls to validate and iterate on it. 
• Working with an Engineer to figure out a way to add some tricky permissioning functionality to our existing Covenant Explorer feature in a way users will understand. 
• Recording a video to explain the tradeoffs on your permissioning ideas, and sharing it with the team. 
• Collaborating with other designers to find ways to improve their design’s UX and appearance. 
• Designing and adding a new component to the 9fin design system, and writing documentation so other designers can use the new component you made. 

Requirements

• You focus on what’s important. You know how to distil a group of ideas into an MVP, by identifying what is actually important, then tactically adding polish. 
• You are comfortable with complexity. We’re building a dedicated tool to help finance professionals, which isn’t an easy task. You don’t need to come with any knowledge of the Legal or Distressed industries, but you should be eager to learn and excited to dive deep. 
• You care about the details. You ship robust, functional, and pragmatic UI designs. You can take a design from idea to production UI. You naturally think about the UX of every state, not just the happy cases. You keep iterating until it’s right. 
• You are a strong communicator. You can work with stakeholders to shape a problem, then explore design solutions. You can clearly communicate your reasoning and influence others. 
• You know your tools. We use Figma for Product design and prototyping, and some other tools for UX testing. You have experience designing and maintaining a reusable design system. 
• You can show your design thinking. You use sketches, wireframes, and prototypes to show how your designs would work in practice. You know how to choose the appropriate fidelity to convey your ideas. 
• You test and iterate. You validate your designs and ideas. You proactively seek user interviews, user testing, feedback and data to keep the needs of the user at the forefront.
