Electrical Engineer

Location: Edmonton, AB

Overview:

The Electrical Engineer (EIT) is responsible for performing power system studies, assisting in the ordering of material for new installations, participating in equipment design, specifications, procurements and preparation of preliminary electrical drawings.

What you will do as a Electrical Engineer at Spark Power:

  • Conduct power systems studies, including arc flash, short circuit and coordination analysis, using ETAP and SKM.
  • Assist in the management and co-ordination of electrical design, drafting, material procurement, construction, and commissioning on projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical documents including electrical drawings, cable and conduit schedules, electrical databases, technical specifications, and contract documents relating to low and medium voltage equipment.
  • Perform and verify electrical design calculations.
  • work with senior engineering personnel in writing and compiling reports/studies/drawings and reviewing design documents.
  • Perform other duties as directed by senior engineering personnel including technical work on various assignments
  • Use a variety of standard engineering methods and techniques in solving problems.
  • Apply detailed instruction and outlined methods of analysis, design, and computation to carry out project duties.
  • Follow all Spark and client safety protocols and procedures.
  • Interact with clients in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Make decisions on project work based on established guidelines.
  • Provide recommendations and technical input to senior engineering personnel.
  • Provide direction to and coordinate with internal drafting team.

Do you have the Spark?! Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering or Electrical Engineering Technologist from accredited institution
  • Registered as an E.I.T. with APEGA
  • Previous 1-2 years experience of performing power systems studies – Arc flash, short circuit and coordination studies
  • 2-4 years total work experience as an Electrical Engineer
  • Previous work experience involved in the design of electrical systems
  • Knowledge of electrical industry specific codes and standards
  • Experience using AutoCAD, SKM Powertools, ETAP, CDEGS and other industry specific software tools
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Willingness to work overtime as required by the project
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Security clearance may be required
