About the role

Every day we push the limits of what is possible on the farm through innovation, determination, and teamwork. A key part of this role will be your ability to find elegant and practical solutions to challenging and dynamic problems. When you're changing the way the world farms, all sorts of interesting situations come up!

We're looking for a Mid to Principal level Electronics Engineer to help our growth through multiple international markets this year. As an experienced Electronics Engineer at Halter, you will demonstrate ownership of the collar hardware through a deep understanding of your hardware's requirements, functionality, and design, and see it through all aspects of its life cycle from inception through to mass deployment. 

You’ll be working on all aspects of the electronics, including ultra-low power design, RF optimization and antenna design, solar power conversion, battery technologies, audio, and high-voltage pulse circuits.

What your day could look like

  • Rapidly design, develop, and test highly reliable electronics for world-leading animal wearables and infrastructure.
  • End-to-end electronic design ownership including component selection, analysis, simulation, schematic design, PCB layout, prototyping, debugging, documentation, manufacturing, and testing.
  • Consistently innovate to improve reliability and hardware performance while minimizing cost to hit ambitious targets.
  • Collaborate with firmware, advanced systems, mechanical, production and farm teams.
  • Design for manufacturing, design for testing, and design for EMC.
  • Develop and execute validation plans to verify all critical features.
  • Root cause analysis of manufacturing and field returns, providing clinical feedback for design improvements

Who we’re looking for

  • Significant professional experience in testing, troubleshooting and debugging electronics
  • Strong electronics product experience rapidly designing and delivering highly reliable electrical hardware from concept through production. Deliver new products, major changes and updates to production in a low-friction way.
  • Experience shipping high-volume electronics products - and nailing it.
  • Strong organisation and communication skills
  • Significant professional experience rapidly designing and delivering highly reliable products
  • Ability to thrive in a self-driven and demanding start­up atmosphere
  • Deep experience in ultra-low power IoT electronics design across power generation, consumption and usage. Passionate about creatively minimising power consumption by utilising cutting-edge tech.
  • Significant professional experience designing and implementing circuit boards from concept through production using MCUs, SoCs, IMUs, GPS, WiFi, LoRa, I2C, SPI, OpAmps, analog to digital and digital to analog converters, solar power, high voltage generation and insulation, DC-DC converters and ultra-low power. 
  • Proficiency with EE tools (SPICE simulation, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, signal generators, LCR meters, current clamps, HV meters etc.).
  • BE degree in Electrical Engineering or similar relevant qualification.

Our Office First Approach (For Auckland Offices)

We do have flexible working hours and you can work from home when you need to but we encourage our team to be in the office as much as you can.

We have an office-first approach because we would like to keep the opportunity for teams to have spontaneous interactions which in turn has allowed our team at Halter to foster strong relationships. Stronger relationships make it easier to disagree, give feedback, do meaningful work and as a result, be higher performing as a team.

This is applicable mainly for our Auckland office-based roles rather than on-the-road roles in teams such as Customer Success or Business Development teams.
