Are you a creative, energetic, and self-motivated professional? Do you have an Electrical Engineering or Engineering Physics background with experience in high-speed low-noise electronics? If so, we invite you to join our Engineering department as a Senior High Speed Low Noise Design Engineer.

In this rewarding position, you will be leading the design, development, performance evaluation and improvement of the communication interface to our advanced superconducting quantum processors. The primary goal of this work is to develop and implement D-Wave’s next generation high bandwidth communications electronics incorporating high speed digital design utilizing FPGAs and low noise high speed analog circuit designs.

What you’ll do:

  • Design and implementation of next generation quantum processor control and readout system electronics
  • Continuous improvement of the current electronics systems
  • Work closely with the multi-disciplinary teams in Engineering and Processor Development and act as a key interface between the teams
  • Clearly document and communicate the work and progress to the internal development teams

What you’ll bring:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Experimental Physics, or equivalent in relevant education and experience
  • Extensive experience in high-speed digital design incorporating FPGAs
  • Multi-year experience in low-noise, high frequency analog and mixed signal electronics and PCB design
  • Excellent understanding of engineering and physics with strong multi-disciplinary technical skills
  • Excellent critical thinking, analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent hands-on ability and trouble shooting skills, including circuit debugging with vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers and related tools
  • Experience with high-speed serial interfaces such as DDR, PCIe and Ethernet
  • Strong organizational and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and programming languages such as C/C++
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment that is focused on priorities and end results
  • Self-motivated, proactive, flexible and passionate about learning
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Experimental Physics
  • Familiarity with Xilinx’s tools and with OrCad schematic and PCB layout tools
  • Experience in microwave circuit design including filtering, switching, multiplexing, and transmission lines
  • Experience with microwave frequency design
  • Experience with superconducting circuits
  • Experience with cryogenic engineering and systems
  • Strong software engineering skills related to experimental design, data acquisition, and analysis
  • Knowledge of relevant E&M modelling tools (SPICE, Ansys HFSS or similar)
  • Registered as a EIT or Professional Engineer in British Columbia
