RN Psych (Geriatric)

• We treat patients with diverse types of mental health issues (anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, dual diagnosis patients: Detox here on the unit while treating mental health issues), and some medically acute patients (IVs, CPAPs, Wound Care, diabetic care). 

• Psychiatric Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. In addition to basic nursing care, responsibilities of Psychiatric Nurses include (but are not limited to):
• Completes physical & mental health assessments
• Develops care plans for patients, helping them be as independent as possible
• Administers and monitors treatment regimens
• Administers prescribed medications, making constant adjustments commensurate with a patient's condition under the supervision of qualified medical staff
• Observes and reports behavioral changes
• Maintains control of drugs and medications
• Helps patients improve their coping abilities
• Works with patients' families to help improve the patient's abilities & help them deal with family member's mental illness
• Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms
• Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Current RN license required (where applicable).
• AHA BLS, Certification in De-escalation.
• 2 years minimum of inpatient adult psych experience.
• State Valid CPI certification.
• Federal and State required credentials current and on file.
• Cognitive skills as related to the position.

• Proficient in using automatic medication dispensing system (Omni Cell); proficient in electronic health records documentation, preferably EPIC; proficient in the use of psychotropic medications and side effects; Able to assume the role of charge nurse; Able to complete admissions and discharges; Competent in the use of IV pumps; Competent in care of a diabetic patient.
