About the team

The Test Environment Infrastructure & Frameworks team is responsible for accelerating Stripe’s developers and providing a happy experience. We work on tools, processes, and code refactoring to accelerate Stripe engineering as Stripe scales.

The team has three main areas of responsibility. Our mission encompasses optimizing our QA infrastructure environment, advancing the capabilities of the Synthetics tool, and facilitating effective service-to-service testing. Through these efforts, we aim to improve the reliability of Stripe's systems and platforms, enhance the quality of deliverables, and ultimately foster a more efficient and innovative development process.

What you’ll do

You will be responsible for defining, leading and owning the solutions for developer productivity problems, as well as the user experience of the platform. Driving the overall usage across the engineering teams. The scope includes engineers who iterate on features locally, and engineers who run end-to-end tests in any supported deployment environment such as QA or pre-production.

Responsibilities

• Work with a wide range of systems, processes, technologies and fellow engineers to own and solve problems from end-to-end across multiple teams.
• Make effective tradeoffs that consider business priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation.
• Own and define the success metrics for the team.
• Develop and lead the team to execute against both short-term and long-term roadmaps.
• Identify, scope, and lead large technical projects, laying the groundwork for early-stage products to iteratively evolve and scale, and taming complexity and shoring up reliability of existing systems.
• Work with engineers across the company to understand when existing infrastructure can be leveraged vs. when building a bespoke solution is prudent, and iterate on the current status quo.
• Create a continuous feedback loop between the team and the rest of the engineering teams on stripe to help continuously prioritize against the needs of the broader engineering teams.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

• 10+ years of professional, full-time software development experience
• Enjoy working on new problems and unexplored areas.
• Experience leading large projects across multiple teams and a track record of solving deep technical problems.
• Experience designing, developing, maintaining and debugging distributed systems built with open source tools.
• Experience writing high quality code in a major programming language, preferably Ruby, Java.
• Experience building developer productivity tools (CI/CD, Testing tools, ..).
• Enjoy working with others and the ability to work well in a collaborative environment.

Preferred qualifications

• Served as the technical lead and defined the roadmap for complex projects spanning multiple teams and functions.
• Experience working with Cloud platforms, infrastructure as a code such as terraform, systems like kubernetes.
• Proficiency in either Java or Ruby.
• Experience leading other engineers is a plus.
