As our business expands, we are seeking a dedicated Accounting Manager to drive operational excellence, with a strong focus on multi-state tax compliance and accounting process improvements.
The Accounting Manager will be responsible for leading accounting operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP, and driving tax compliance across multiple states. Reporting directly to the Controller of Finance & Accounting, this role requires a strategic thinker with hands-on leadership experience.
· Lead and manage a team of four accounting staff, providing training, guidance, and oversight in key areas such as cash management, accounts payable, intercompany accounting, payroll, and inventory.
· Oversee and ensure compliance with multi-state sales and use tax regulations, including tax reporting, audits, and Avalara tax management.
· Manage the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate posting of journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reviews.
· Continuously assess and improve accounting processes, identifying efficiencies and implementing new procedures to enhance accuracy and productivity.
· Assist with insurance renewals, including completing applications and forecasting coverage needs.
· Review and approve payments, including ACH and wire transfers.
· Act as a backup for payroll processing as needed.
· Participate in special projects and initiatives to support business growth and compliance.
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting; MBA or CPA is a plus.
· 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in wholesale distribution or manufacturing.
· Proven expertise in multi-state tax compliance, including sales tax, use tax, and audit preparation.
· Strong leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to manage people and accounting processes.
· Proficiency with accounting systems, ideally NetSuite ERP and Avalara Tax.
· Advanced Excel skills and strong data analysis capabilities.
· A problem-solving mindset, with a focus on process improvement and operational efficiency.
