PURCHASING AGENT
The Purchasing Agent holds responsibility for overseeing the purchasing activities and tracking of construction materials, tools, supplies and services. Through these activities, the Purchasing Agent will enhance the consistency and profitability of regional construction operations.
Principal Duties and Accountabilities:
- Responsible for purchasing activities including bulk buy-out, materials for fabrication shops, sheet metal commodities, and locating and purchasing uncommon specialties.
- Develop and maintain tracking database for vendor stock quantities, backorders, returns and material credits.
- Establish, maintain, and issue blanket subcontract agreements.
- Assist Project Managers with issuing purchase orders, invoice approvals, commodities monitoring and alerts, material forecasting, PVF/commodity type submittals, meeting purchasing requirements, and managing document control.
- Provide support to Estimating team by generating material lists during the bid process.
- Develop and ensure accurate and consistent cost coding.
- Develop and maintain a standardized submittal database.
- Coordinate material delivery arrangements and material returns/transfers between jobsites.
- Review submittals for specification compliance.
- Track and assist with MWBE goals.
- Provide pricing support for change orders.
- Place and track field orders; review specifications and ensure conformance.
- Price and submit stock requisitions.
- Locate, evaluate, and establish local and national vendor relationships.
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalency required
- Coursework related to business administration preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of material/equipment purchasing experience in the construction industry.
- Past Purchasing Agent experience preferred.
- Prior experience in role assisting with Project Management or field leadership preferred.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of procurement/vendor inspection techniques and requirements.
- Thorough knowledge of mechanical construction industry operations practices, processes, and standards.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills with internal and external customers.
- Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict-management skills.
- Time-management and organizational skills.
- High level of financial acumen necessary.
- Detail-oriented and ability to analyze complex reports.
- Proficiency with MS Office suite products required – includes Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
- Proficiency with MS Access database preferred.
Physical and/or travel demands:
- No travel required.
- This position is done in a typical office setting, mostly sitting at a desk. Frequent use of computer keyboard, monitor, and telephone. Some standing, bending, and lifting light files is required.
Benefits and Compensation:
- The range for this position has been established at $23.00 $30.00 per hour and is US Engineering’s good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of the posting. The compensation offered to the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
