Description: Improvix Technologies is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to support the Department of State's Data Analytics and Assessment (DAA) team. This role is part of a multi-year effort to build out the DT bureau’s data analytics unit, expanding solution implementations to create a multi-vendor data ecosystem leveraging tools like Power BI, Tableau, Databricks, Splunk, and more. The focus will be on data adoption and utilization across the bureau, improving data management, culture, transparency, governance, and delivering high-visibility data-centric solutions.
The Data Scientist will play a pivotal role in the transformation, helping deliver advanced mission-aligned solutions and mature DT’s data capabilities with AI, ML, and other technologies.
Job Duties:
• Engage with customer stakeholders and technical SMEs to align capabilities and design data-centric solutions.
• Develop data pipelines and models for analysis and visualization of DT data sources.
• Support peer technical staff with resolving complex issues surrounding data analysis, modeling, integration, visualization, etc.
• Champion a data-driven culture by advocating best practices in data usage, fostering data literacy across teams, and encouraging the integration of data insights into decision-making processes.
• Lead efforts to pilot new capabilities for AI, ML, RPA, and additional forward-leaning innovations for the DT bureau.
• Ensure alignment with the Department of State’s bureau-level data strategy and chief data officer initiatives.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field and 5+ years of experience OR a master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field and 3+ years of experience.
• Demonstrated experience building data visualizations with a business intelligence tool (Power BI or Tableau).
• Strong programming skills, including data-querying skills (SQL and/or Spark, etc.) and experience with a scripting language for data processing and development (e.g., Python, R, or Scala).
• Experienced in building and maintaining large-scale ETL/ELT pipelines that are optimized for performance and can handle data from various sources, structured or unstructured.
• Proficiency in data science, machine learning and statistical data analysis.
• Proven ability to effectively communicate complex findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in a consulting capacity, collaborating with clients to identify and develop AI/ML use cases, data analytics strategies, process automation solutions, and initiatives to enhance data literacy.
• Experience building or integrating generative AI applications and automations.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks, Splunk, or other related data platforms.
• Hands-on experience with R for statistical analysis.
• Experience supporting geographically distributed, remote-work teams.
• Experience working with data-related cloud services in Azure (SQL Database, Data Factory, Data Lake) or AWS (Glue, Redshift, RDS, SageMaker).
• Experience in a professional software development setting with collaborative tools (GitHub).
