About the Role
HCP Vault Secrets is a HashiCorp security product that helps customers manage the lifecycle of their secrets. It is a deeply technical product with a focus on accuracy and reliability given the sensitive nature of data that it manages. Its users are operators of platforms, developers of applications, and security admins. HCP Vault Secrets is the recently launched cloud offering for secrets lifecycle management (SLM), and is a sister team to Vault, the industry standard for self-managed SLM.
In its vision to become the modern standard for securing access to multi-cloud infrastructure and data, we are starting with Secrets Lifecycle Management and will continue onwards to increasing our breadth of secret types with the goal of enabling our customers to have a significantly more secure posture and rely less on human-managed secrets. We are passionate about delivering user-centric workflows for bottoms-up adoption and trust, making security compliance a low-effort activity. We place a heavy emphasis on building products that address customer pain points, collecting data on adoption of features, and continually iterating on quantitative and qualitative feedback.
As a Manager within Vault Secrets, you will be responsible for leading product delivery teams to deliver on strategic and business critical initiatives. You will partner with senior leadership to shape the long term roadmap, work across organizations to deliver platform wide experiences, and build systems to scale in line with user growth. You will be leading teams that consist of talented engineers with both backend and frontend expertise, whose growth and development you will be responsible for.
This Position
The team that you will be responsible for will tackle a range of responsibilities:
- Build the foundational aspects of an Enterprise grade SaaS offering for secrets and identity management
- Build and operate SaaS offerings that meet our customers’ scalability and reliability needs.
- Center problem solving around end user experiences
- Drive innovation and evolve the architecture of widely adopted product offerings
- Mentor and coach the team, promoting their career growth and professional development

- Take a pragmatic approach to solving business problems and balancing them with the career aspirations of the team
- Translate vision to execution for key initiatives in partnership with senior leadership
- Engage on topics such as performance, security, compliance and user interactions in complex systems
- Play a mix of roles, including management and mentoring, hiring, long term planning, product management partnership, and technical contribution and guidance
To be successful in this role, you will have…
- 8+ years of software engineering experience
- 2+ years in a formal people management role
- Have worked as an engineer on SaaS offerings with modern Operational Readiness practices
- Have led teams building SaaS offerings for enterprise customers
- Have expertise in one or more of the major public clouds: AWS, Azure, GCP
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with Product and Design
- Developed engineering talent through career growth and performance management including senior engineers
- Have navigated cross-org relationships and have experience aligning priorities
- Have adapted to changing priorities in a dynamic environment, including experience with products trying to achieve product market fit
- Been a keen student of the art of leadership and management
Optional experience that may help this team might include...
- Have operated high scale SaaS offerings with a microservice architecture written in Golang
- Have built products for technical users
- Have experience with infrastructure-as-a-service
- Are familiar with security products and/or identity management solutions
- Have engaged with senior leadership to define strategy and help drive clarity
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross functionally in remote, globally distributed team

Individual pay within the range will be determined based on job related-factors such as skills, experience, and education or training.
The base pay range for this role in the SF Bay Area / NYC area is:
$195,500—$230,000 USD
The base pay range for this role in Seattle Metro, Denver / Boulder Metro, New York (excluding NYC), Washington D.C., or California (excluding SF Bay Area) is:
$179,200—$210,800 USD
The base pay range for this role in Colorado (excluding Denver / Boulder Metro) and Washington (excluding Seattle Metro) is:
$162,900—$191,650 USD
