Boulder Care is looking for a Certified Medical Assistant (internally referred to as a Care Advocate) with substance use disorder experience for a 100% remote, full-time, position with a Monday-Friday work schedule of 9am-6pm Pacific Time (12pm-9pm Eastern Time).
This is a fully remote role but we are currently only hiring candidates located in the following states: AL, AK, AZ, FL, GA, ID, MI, NM, NC, OH, OR, PA, TN, and TX.

Summary
The Care Advocate (CA) at Boulder Care is an important part of a collaborative team that works together to guide patients with substance use disorder throughout their treatment journey. Serves as a passionate advocate on behalf of the participant. In partnership with the patient, you’ll navigate traditional systems to overcome access gaps, discontinuity, and stigma.
As a Care Advocate, you will be part of an integral team that supports patients and clinicians. Your ability to form lasting, high trust relationships will meaningfully impact experience and overall success in the program.
Work from the convenience of your own home, and the occasional call and weekend coverage will be expected. You will be supported by a clinical team (physicians, nurse practitioners, peer recovery specialists) and technology built to support both patients and our care teams in delivering these critical services.
Success in this role
Patient-Facing Functions - 50%
- Complete new patient intakes
- Complete oral fluid test visits
- Complete and schedule Medication Adherence Monitoring (MAM) visits
Administrative Functions - 50%
- Monitoring incoming patient messages
- Reviews urine drug screen results and updates chart
- Completes phone calls for any patient needs regarding care
- Communication with pharmacies for refills and authorizations
- Generates lab orders
- Supports clinician with patient care (referrals, records, letters, transition of care, etc.)
Requirements for the role
- 2 years experience as a Certified Medical Assistant
- Minimum of one year experience in navigating the behavioral health system, substance use treatment, patient advocacy, care coordination, crisis hotline, peer coaching, or other relevant experience as a liaison between patients and care teams
- Must be comfortable with technology and have experience with common business tools (such as G-Suite, video meetings, and spreadsheets)
- Exceptional clinical skills working with a care team to achieve outcomes enriching people's lives by achieving sustained recovery, and the ongoing evaluation and iteration of our care model as the company grows
- Expertise in toggling between multiple platforms in a fast-paced remote environment
- Extensive experience with scheduling and maneuvering through multiple schedules
- A passion for serving the needs of people with addiction and mental health challenges, using non-stigmatizing, non-judgmental person-first language
- Knowledge of terminology used in healthcare, especially addiction medicine
- Team-focused and collaborative. Advocates tirelessly for patients and Care Team members
- A dedicated, private workspace with a lockable door and high-speed internet to maintain a secure, distraction-free environment, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality standards.
Nice to have but not required
- Lived experience with SUD or AUD recovery (your own or a loved one)
- Experience with Harm Reduction
- Experience working remote / telemedicine
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
Work environment

Expected hours of work
This is a full-time position expected to work 40 hours a week, M-F 9am-6pm Pacific Time (12pm-9pm Eastern Time). Team members may work with their managers to adjust work hours to suit the needs of the position. Team members may be asked to work additional days as work demands require.
