This position reports to the Packaging Supervisor. Packaging Technician should have a working background or understanding in the repair of electrical and electronics.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work in a safe and effective manner.
- Read blueprints, electrical schematics and operating a variety of hand and power tools.
- Maintain the operation of production lines by providing simple “on-line” repairs on all packaging/processing lines.
- Troubleshoot the source of the equipment failure and then adjust, repair, or replace parts as needed using standard hand and power tools. Performs these tasks at the request of the Packaging Manager, Packaging Supervisor, Safety or the Production team.
- Work collaboratively with other departments.
- May be required to fabricate a needed part if availability is limited by use of grinder, drill press, or other tools.
- Report to the Packaging Supervisor for assignment of non-emergency repairs of equipment or preventative maintenance during down times.
- General preventative maintenance
- Assist in packaging testing.
- Routinely visit all packaging units to inspect equipment, operating or not.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
- Candidates must be willing to:
- Regularly lift 25 lbs. as required.
- Wear hard-toe shoes for the duration of the shift.
- Walk 3-5 miles per shift and stand for up to 10+ hours within a shift.
- Infrequently move 2500 lbs carts for a distance of at least 5 to 10 feet.
- Climb and perform work on ladders or at heights of 10 to 30 feet. As required.
- Working on a night or day shift compressed workweek schedule. Shifts are twelve hours long and rotate.
- Understand the use of Personal Protective Equipment and potentially work for up to 12 hours in a full or half face respirators, Tyvek, and gloves.
- Work day and night shift including weekends.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience with a variety of packaging equipment.
- Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
- Knowledge of packaging equipment and packaging materials
- Understanding of NPN, PNP devices (OJT)
- Understanding and compliance with all personal safety rules and use of equipment (OJT)
- Required to purchase and maintain their own quality hand tools.
- Maintaining quality hand tools requires that they keep all tools clean and in good working order.
- Ability to drive a forklift (OJT)
- Understanding of cross contamination prevention
