Summary of Duties of the Resident Services Director
The Resident Services Director assists Independent Living Residents in identifying appropriate resources in maintaining their highest level of independence and satisfaction to include problem solving for health, social, and emotional needs and coordinating support services. The Resident Services Director may be required to supervise other staff positions.
Essential Functions of the Resident Services Director
- In consultation with the Executive Director, hires, trains, disciplines, and terminates any departmental associates in accordance with company policies.
- Develops, oversees, markets, and coordinates community resident services programs.
- In collaboration with the Executive Director, implements orientation programs for new associates.
- Monitors and oversees any outside care providers working at the community.
- Meets all prospective residents prior to move in to assist with the transition into the community to meet the psycho-social needs of the resident.
- Coordinates new resident orientation processes to ensure a smooth transition and appropriate socialization activities are planned for each new resident.
- Conducts family conferences to determine the amount of support services required to meet the resident’s needs.
- Responds to emergencies, assesses situation, and alerts medical help when necessary.
- Addresses and follows-up on all resident concerns, incidents, and accident reports in a timely manner.
- Contacts family members during times of emergency and other concern issues.
- Communicates on a regular basis with health care providers to monitor and assess health conditions, safety issues, and the needs of all residents.
- Communicates with other associate members concerning resident changes and building operation issues.
- Reports any suspected or witnessed instances of verbal, mental, or physical abuse to Executive Director.
- Attends Care Conferences, as requested by residents/family members for residents in rehab/nursing centers to assist with transition back to the community.
- Serves as the community’s resource for Aging Services and provides education of the aging process to associates as well as the residents and family members.
- Prepares and monitors compliance with annual budget.
- Develops and maintains a positive image with local community. Attends all area social services agency meetings and events and will also attend social and civic affairs representing the community.
Non-Essential Functions of the Resident Services Director
- Participates in and supports the resident-centered activities program.
- Demonstrates the ability to function as a team member in sharing responsibilities for the administration of resident services responsibilities in cooperation with all members of the team.
- Keeps the Executive Director and Wellness Director informed of all changes in resident's health or wellbeing of the residents of the community.
- Participates in all associate meetings and attends other meetings as required.
- Demonstrates an appreciation of the heritage, values and wisdom of the residents, and an understanding of the aging process.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Executive Director.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university; and a minimum of one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in senior living or related senior services agency, preferred.
- Be in good physical health and free of communicable diseases.
- Lifting, bending, and pushing medication cart about residence is required; Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
- Completion of drug testing and criminal background check upon hire and upon request of supervisor.
