Tax and Treasury Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled Tax and Treasury Manager to join our Finance team either in Helsinki or London.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in enhancing our tax planning, compliance, and treasury capabilities. This role requires a strategic thinker with a solid background in managing global tax risks, ensuring robust transfer pricing structures, and overseeing direct and indirect tax compliance.  

As a Tax and Treasury Manager at Smartly, you will...

• Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive tax strategies to manage global tax risks and optimize the company’s tax position.
• Ensure that transfer pricing policies and processes are robust, compliant, and aligned with the overall business strategy.
• Oversee the preparation and filing of tax returns (direct and indirect), ensuring compliance with local, national, and international tax regulations.
• Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess their impact on the company, providing strategic recommendations to senior management.
• Manage relationships with external tax advisors and tax authorities, coordinating responses to tax audits and inquiries.
• Develop and maintain efficient tax reporting systems to ensure accurate and timely filing of tax returns.
• Provide guidance on tax issues related to business transactions as required, ensuring the company’s interests are protected.
• Conduct regular reviews and audits of tax processes to identify and mitigate potential risks.
• Collaborate with finance and legal teams to ensure integrated and compliant tax practices.
• Optimise cash management and working capital processes to ensure optimal liquidity and financial stability.
• Assist in the development and implementation of strategies for effective cash flow management, including forecasting and monitoring.
• Maintain strong relationships with financial institutions to support treasury operations and ensure access to necessary financial services.

We're looking for you, if you have...

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional qualification (e.g., ACA, ACT, CTA) is highly desirable.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in tax and/or treasury within a multinational organization.
• Proven expertise in tax planning, transfer pricing, and global tax compliance, with an understanding of the international tax provisions of either European or US international tax laws.
• Exposure to treasury operations, particularly cash management, working capital optimization, and FX risk management, would be highly desirable.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across various teams and levels of the organization.
• Proficiency in using ERP systems and tax software.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with an ability to take ownership over projects.
• Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
• High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
• Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic tech environment.
• Are able to work in a hybrid capacity from our London or Helsinki office a minimum of 2 days a week
