Position Title: Demographic Research & Planning Specialist
Salary Range: $90,000 - $95,000
Location: Onsite (Los Angeles, CA)

Position: Demographic Research & Planning Specialist
Duties:
9.1 Perform the collection, research and analysis of a broad range of demographic data sources
such as student records, population data sets obtained from the district and local and state
agencies
9.2 Generate reports, graphs and charts to collate information collected and develop presentations
9.3 Use statistical analysis and develop student projections and enrollment by school or cluster for
proposed boundary changes
9.4 Compile and assess demographic research and statistical studies involving projections in
enrollment fluctuations at schools and various areas in the district
9.5 Participate in summaries and other written materials to ensure the access to demographic
information and allow stakeholders to make informed decisions
9.6 Analyze proposals for attendance zone changes and its effect on planning for school
construction projects
9.7 Respond to inquiries related to zoning and enrollment data, including demographic and
geographic issues from district staff and outside agencies
9.8 Participate in field on-site surveys to determine demographic and geographic student
population data and project classroom capacities
9.9 Develop and maintain zone grid maps to determine school locations, boundaries for the district
9.10 Maintains quality control of maps and documents
9.11 Performs other related tasks required.
Required Experience:
10.1 Minimum of five (5) years full-time paid professional experience in research, mapping or data
analysis in demography, urban planning, statistics, geography or any related field.
10.2 Experience in compiling and analyzing school or enrollment data is preferred
Required Education:
10.3 Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in urban
planning, mathematics, geography, economics or related field
Knowledge/Skills:
10.4 Statistical methods of analysis
10.5 Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and related computer software such as ArcGIS10
10.6 Mapping concepts and techniques in cartography
10.7 Research methods, principles and graphic presentations
10.8 Microsoft Office proficiency
10.9 Best practices and terminologies in demography
