A leading retirement community dedicated to providing exceptional patient care seeks a compassionate and skilled Director of Nursing to join its dynamic team in Englewood, OH. The Director of Nursing will plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the Nursing Services Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards governing the facility, and as may be directed by the Administration, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained. Works closely with all other department supervisors in the planning and delivering of resident services according to current regulations in a timely and orderly fashion.

What You'll Do

  • Developing and periodically updating the nursing service objectives and statements of philosophy; 
  • Developing  standards of nursing practice; 
  • Developing and maintaining nursing policy and procedure manuals, written job descriptions for each level of nursing  personnel; 
  • Scheduling of weekly rounds to visit residents; 
  • Developing methods for coordination of nursing services with other resident services; 
  • Recruiting and retaining the number and levels of nursing personnel necessary to meet the nursing care needs of each resident. Assist in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating nursing services personnel; document and coordinate personnel actions; Schedule and maintain- sufficient staffing to meet the needs of the residents, including vacation and holiday schedules, shift and work, assignments, etc. to ensure adequate staffing and to expedite work; delegate administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability to nurse services personal as deemed necessary to perform assigned duties; ensure that all nursing services personnel have a valid license and are performing duties in accordance with acceptable nursing standards; and review personnel complaints and grievances and ensure that all personnel is treated consistent with policies and applicable laws. 
  • Develop and participate in planning, implementing, conducting, and scheduling orientation, training, and in-service educational activities for nursing personnel; maintain professional competence, as well as current licenses; through participation in continuing education programs, seminars, and training programs; Encourage nursing services supervisory personnel to attend and participate in leadership and outside training programs. 
  • Participating in the planning and budgeting for nursing services; 
  • Ensuring that all health services notes are informative and descriptive of the supervision and care rendered, including the resident's response to his/her care;  
  • Assessing the nursing requirements for each resident admitted and assisting the attending physician in planning for the resident's care. 
  • Participating in the development and implementation of the resident assessment and comprehensive care plan;
  • Assuring that nursing care personnel are administering care and services in accordance with the resident's assessment and care plan. 
  • Participating in screening residents for admission to the facility, informing personnel of new admission needs, monitoring residents' treatment and medications, and reviewing nurses' notes to ensure proper documentation. 
  • Recommend to the Administrator the equipment and supply needs of the Nursing Services Department; assist in developing and monitoring adequate and cost-effective inventory control procedures; make periodic inspections of supplies and equipment to ensure that adequate levels are maintained and that equipment is available and working properly; develop and implement procedures to ensure that trained and authorized personnel operate nursing services equipment in a safe manner. 
  • Facilitate and participate in various committees and meetings of the facility; Provide written and/or oral reports of the Nursing Services Department; and Evaluate and implement recommendations pertaining to nursing services. 
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining safety standards, written Aseptic and isolation techniques, programs for monitoring communicable and/or infectious diseases among residents and staff, and procedures for reporting hazardous conditions or equipment; ensure that nursing services personnel understand and follow departmental policies and procedures, the Infection Control Plan, Universal Precautions, established safety rules, and fire and disaster procedures; and, ensure cleanliness of nursing services work areas, stations, preparation rooms, treatment areas and resident care rooms. 
  • Assists chairperson of the Quality Assurance committee. Assists and oversees the entire quality assurance program with the Administrative Co-ordinator. Conducts Quality Assurance meetings as necessary. 
  • All other duties as assigned by the Administrator.

What You Need

  • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Must be a Registered Nurse in good standing and meet all applicable federal and state licensure requirements. 
  • Must show the ability to read and write in a legible and understandable manner. 
  • Must speak and understand English 
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills 
  • Must be knowledgeable of general, rehabilitative, and restorative nursing and  medical practices and procedures and laws, regulations, and guidelines governing long-term care 
  • Possess a positive attitude toward the elderly and co-workers. 
  • TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years of previous experience in geriatric nursing 
  • 1-3 years in a supervisory capacity 
  • Knowledge of current state, federal, and local standards for long-term care 
  • PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a genuine interest in working with the elderly. 
  • Cooperative attitude toward residents, families, and staff. 
  • Possess good work ethics and honesty. 
  • Neat and well groomed with good personal hygiene. 
  • Physical conditioning allows for walking, stooping, bending, and stretching during the work period. 
  • Verbal ability to communicate directives and good listening skills to promote excellent resident and staff relations. 
  • PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day. 
  • Must be able to speak and write English in an understandable manner. 
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. 
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met. 
  • Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the residents, personnel, and support agencies. 
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination. 
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility. 
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of fifty pounds. 
  • It may be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.

Salary & Benefits

  • Location: Englewood, OH
  • Salary: $88,000-$95,000 per year
  • Shift: 8 am-4:30 pm (may slightly vary as this is a salary job)
