<p>OCU are seeking a Civils Operative to work from our Reading office. A Civils Operative is typically responsible for carrying out a range of civil engineering tasks related to construction, maintenance, and repair of infrastructure such as roads, bridges, utilities, and drainage systems.</p><p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Assist in the construction of civil engineering projects, including excavation, concreting, laying pipes, and installing drainage systems, following engineering drawings and specifications.</li><li>Perform maintenance and repair tasks on existing infrastructure, such as patching roads, repairing potholes, clearing blocked drains, and replacing damaged sections of utilities.</li><li> Operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment, such as excavators, dump trucks, compactors, and jackhammers, safely and efficiently.</li><li>Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and safe working practices at all times, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to risk assessments and method statements.</li><li>Implement traffic management measures such as road closures, diversions, and signage to ensure the safety of workers and the public during construction and maintenance activities.</li><li>Carry out work to a high standard of quality and craftsmanship, following established procedures and best practices, and adhering to relevant quality standards and specifications.</li><li>Implement environmental protection measures to minimize the impact of construction activities on the environment, such as erosion control, waste management, and pollution prevention.</li><li>Work collaboratively with colleagues, contractors, and other stakeholders to coordinate activities, share knowledge and expertise, and achieve project objectives safely and efficiently.</li><li>Maintain accurate records of work activities, including work orders, timesheets, inspection reports, and incident logs, and submit reports to supervisors or management as required.</li><li>Interact with members of the public, residents, and other stakeholders in a professional and courteous manner, addressing enquiries, providing information, and resolving complaints or concerns effectively.</li></ul><p><strong>Skills & Responsibilities </strong></p><ul><li>Previous experience in civil engineering, construction, or a related field is desirable, although on-the-job training may be provided for entry-level positions.</li><li>Basic knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction techniques, and materials, as well as familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment commonly used in civil engineering works.</li><li>Awareness of health and safety regulations, hazard identification, risk assessment, and safe working practices in the construction industry, with a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.</li><li>Good physical fitness and stamina, as the role may involve working outdoors in various weather conditions, lifting heavy objects, and performing physically demanding tasks.</li><li>Ability to work effectively as part of a team, following instructions, collaborating with colleagues, and contributing positively to a harmonious and productive work environment.</li><li>Basic verbal communication skills, with the ability to understand and follow instructions, communicate effectively with colleagues, and interact professionally with members of the public.</li><li>A valid UK driving license may be required, as the role may involve traveling to different work sites and operating company vehicles or machinery.</li><li>Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and overtime, to meet project deadlines and respond to emergency situations as required</li></ul><p><strong>Company Information:</strong></p><p>Established in 1994, OCU Group is one of the fastest growing utility engineering contractors in the UK, with a long successful track record in delivering customer-focused civil engineering solutions.</p><p>Working directly with many of the country’s leading blue-chip power, water, telecoms, and rail clients, we are looking for the very best talent to join our growing team.</p><p>We pride ourselves on empowering our employees and offering opportunities for them to take control of their own personal development and career progression in a supportive environment.</p><p>We believe that being successful is a choice.</p><p>We choose to be successful.</p><p>We are OCU, ‘One Company United’.</p><p><strong>We celebrate difference and appreciate diverse backgrounds.
