Job Description:
The Operating Room Technician is responsible for providing technical support to surgeons and other medical professionals in the operating room. The technician will assist in the preparation of operating room instruments and equipment, set up and maintain the sterile field, prepare and pass instruments to surgeons, and provide post-operative care. The technician's role is essential to ensuring patient safety and comfort, and providing a successful surgical outcome.
Operating Room Technician Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up, maintain and prepare the operating room for surgery
- Gather and prepare the necessary instruments, equipment and supplies for each procedure
- Ensure all equipment is in proper working order
- Maintain a sterile field throughout the procedure
- Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon during the procedure
- Monitor patient's vital signs and report any changes to the medical staff
- Assist in closing the wound and applying dressings
- Assist in the transfer of the patient to the recovery room
- Clean and restock the operating room after each procedure
- Keep accurate records of supplies used and patient information
Operating Room Technician Requirements and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in a clinical setting is preferred
- Knowledge of surgical instruments and supplies
- Basic understanding of anatomy and physiology
- Able to remain calm in high stress situations
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Able to lift and move heavy objects
- Able to stand for extended periods of time
- CPR certification and current BLS certification
