Network Technician, MOBILE-BOSTON We are looking for a
Network Technician with a proven track record in:
- Racking and stacking of network devices
- Cable patching
- Physical layer troubleshooting
- Equipment disposal activities
- Network troubleshooting
Position Details:
- Hourly salary based upon the level of experience & skill-set
- Contract position with possible extension(s) or hire
- Standard Support Hours Mon-Fri 8:00am - 6:00pm (OT and weekends, nights; possible on call rotation every other week)
- Mobile Worker: Supporting mainly MA/RI/NH and rarely ME/VT/CT (prefer candidates to reside in Norther/Northeastern MA)
- Requires a valid driver's license and a dependable vehicle that can support a 6 foot ladder
- Tools: Punch tool Toner & Probe Snips
Responsibilities:
- The patching cabling between network equipment and customer's network
- Structured cabling experience, must have basic cabling tools
- The installation of power cables from equipment to power supply in rack/cabinet/closet
- The installation, troubleshooting and de-installing network equipment
- Install/swap out devices (e.g., phone, computers, cables, boards, edge routers, switches and etc.)
- Install, troubleshoot, and de-install Network General remote Sniffers
- Complete all hard and complex Move, Add Change (MAC) requests within the defined service levels
- Act as interface between customer's associates and management
- Provide hardware break-fix services for network infrastructure
- Perform onsite call-through, data, voice, website and security testing
- Perform back-up testing to ensure all systems are connected to the customer's network as directed
- Support carrier testing of circuits
- Assist with facilities efforts
- Power and uninterruptable power supply (UPS) restoral
- Water problems,
- Emergency cooling restoration,
- Fire suppression exercises, restoration, and post fire events
- Support inventory management activities
- Receiving inventory
- Tagging of assets
- Tracking spares (crash kits)
- Ordering inventory
- Updating inventory records
- Prepare and return damaged equipment
- Act as an interface, as needed, between associates at the applicable location and centralized project / operations / MAC management
Requirements:
- Must be proficient in utilizing technical tools such as cable tester
- Requires experience in working in communications closets
- Must be able to perform rack and stack activities
- Must be able to safely lift heavy objects
- Must understand cable patching processes and procedures
- Must be familiar with 66 Block and 110 Block cross connect procedures
- Must have a basic knowledge of data communications networking.
- Must be able to assist in troubleshooting issues
- Must understand network terminology
- Must be familiar with IP phone
- Must be able to program Cisco phones
- Must be able to install Avaya phones
- Must be able to troubleshoot Avaya and Cisco phones
- Requires good interpersonal communications skills
- Must be able to explain technical issues in a way the customer will understand an issue
- Must be able to interpret a customer's issue in a way that will allow technician to facilitate a resolution
Experience and Education:
- 5 years of experience in data communications
- Structured cabling experience installing, testing, terminating, and troubleshooting of CAT 5 & 6 copper cabling.
- Installing and troubleshooting Cisco and Avaya IP phones
- Must have a basic knowledge of Cisco Phones, switches and routers
- Must have a basic knowledge of local and wide area networking.
- Basic proficiency with MS Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- High school diploma or equivalent required
