Tax Compliance is crucial to Backbase rapid global scaling and its success. As a Group Tax Accountant, you are an important contributor within the Finance team. You will be responsible for direct and indirect tax compliance processes of various international subsidiaries, managing all compliance taxation functions globally.
You maintain the Backbase tax calendar globally, ensuring compliance with global & local taxation requirements, and oversee the accounting and reporting for the company’s current and deferred taxes, successfully consolidating the taxing jurisdictions where Backbase conducts business. You process tax payments, prepare reports on key metrics, and provide support to the accounting and financial teams when needed.
You will report to the Accounting Operations Manager and work closely with the Tax Director, External tax advisors and consultants, Accounting (AP,AR,GL) and Business controlling teams.
Meet the job
● Primarily responsible for accounting operations of the entity including preparation of periodic financial statements/ reports;
● Ensure the books comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards and local in-country compliance requirements including maintaining separate books of accounts, if required as per local law;
● Review of balance sheet account reconciliation and review of detailed schedules for all balance sheet open items at each GL level;
● Review of Run rate analysis (including variance analysis) for all items of P&L;
● Ensure timely closure of all audits, internal or external, and timely filing of all statutory reports;
● Also responsible for assessing the risk and control environment across processes at regular intervals, ensuring comprehensive set of controls are in place to mitigate risk and they are followed through;
● The controller ensures streamlining of various policies, procedures and controls and ensure they are aligned within group;
● The controller works closely with other functions including secretarial, taxation, treasury, payroll, etc. to ensure smooth operations of the entity, manage cash flow, and ensure timely payments to employees / vendors;
● Working with cross functional teams and ensure the monthly closure activities and accurate reporting are achieved within the central timelines;
● Follow up/Escalate for resolution of open items on a timely manner and Stake holder management;
● Assist with technical accounting issues such as Revenue Recognition, Consolidation, and other accounting matters.
How about you
● 5+ years of General Ledger or financial controllership role (For CA – Articleship is not considered as experience);
● Experience with software clients and/or industry or SaaS companies is preferred;
● Experience with Netsuite is a plus;
● Through understanding of IFRS/USGAPP/IndAs;
● Should be a qualified Chartered Accountant / ACCA / CPA;
● Super-user (Advanced) in Excel;
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
● Highly organized, with great attention to detail;
● Confidence and proven record of communicating both orally and written, including the dissemination of technical information;
● Ability to interact effectively with sales and product teams, functional peer groups, and subordinates and to gain cooperation from others, especially those in other departments, as well as with outside auditors;
● Ability to work independently and take ownership of multiple concurrent and diversified tasks, while working with deadlines.
