Responsibilties

We are Anchor Point Studios and we’re looking for a Lead 3D Character Artist to help us build the future of mind-blowing video game entertainment for a new, innovative 3D action title. As the Lead 3D Character Artist you will be tasked with visualizing and communicating the artistic direction of our characters. You will play a crucial role in shaping the aesthetic of our games, creating character groups that captivate players worldwide. We are not just looking for an artist; we need a collaborative visionary who can contribute innovative ideas, engage in prototyping, drive our project from the character conceptual stage to implementation, and bring our unique and compelling characters to life.

  • Create high-quality Stylized 3D characters that align with our unique art direction
  • Maintain consistency in character modeling and surface treatment across the project.
  • Collaborate with the Creative Director, Art Director, and Concept Artists to develop 2D concept art into detailed 3D character models.
  • Using 3D modeling, texturing, and sculpting software such as Maya, Zbrush, and Substance Painter, and implement those models into an Unreal Engine 5x game. 
  • Partner with Tech Art and Animation teams to ensure characters and creatures are modeled correctly with proper rigging, allowing for natural movement and expression during gameplay.
  • Review and optimize character assets to ensure they meet performance and memory constraints while maintaining visual quality. This will require very close collaboration with Tech Art and Engineering to implement efficient workflows and techniques for character asset creation.
  • Work with Production to develop our character outsourcing pipeline that meets the quality standards of the game.

 

Core Skillsets and Requirements:

 

  • At least 5 years of experience in 3D character art, with at least 2 years in a Lead or Senior role.
  • Expert knowledge of industry-standard software such as Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter, and Photoshop.
  • Strong understanding of anatomy, form, and proportion. With the ability to create stylized characters that are both appealing and functional.
  • Proficiency in creating clean, efficient topology and UV mapping, as well as experience with rigging and skinning.
  • Expertise in creating stylized textures and materials that enhance the visual appeal of characters.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with other departments.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing a range of stylized 3D character work, including both high-poly and low-poly models.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical issues related to character creation.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate the team.

 

Plus:

  • Experience utilizing Unreal Engine 5
  • Familiarity with PBR (Physically Based Rendering) workflows
