About the Role:

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Lead DataOps Engineer to join our Technical Operations team. We’re looking for someone with enthusiasm for delving into the data and investigating any issues that occur from data ingestion to fully productionized models.

  • Promoting a DataOps approach to help automate the provision of data testing and monitoring
  • Monitor the quality of data that is produced from our pipelines. Examine complex data to optimise the quality of the data being collected, resolve data quality problems, and collaborate with developers to improve systems and database designs
  • You will be working with a number of different technology stacks, ranging from (AWS, Python, PostgreSQL, C++, Airflow, Linux, Splunk, Jupyter notebooks, GIT, Atlassian, Jenkins)
  • Playing a key role in technical design and ongoing development of custom ETL solutions; understanding and contributing from the design stage through to code level.
  • Being the first point of contact for any data questions that come in from our clients, owning the data, and making changes to the data, be it via SQL scripts or other methods.
  • Make sure the data we deliver to our clients is of a high standard.
  • Work with cross-functional stakeholder teams to ensure that the right tooling/solution is used for the right problem.
  • Championing and leading the use of engineering best practices.
  • A good understanding of Incident Management, Managing Systems, and ITIL principles.

The Data Ops team is responsible for

  • Ownership of Data Quality Control
  • Ensures production stability and supports data processing end to end.
  • Monitoring the production systems/data deliveries and responding to any issues.
  • Work with the compute environment team to improve Data Quality and Tooling.

At BMLL the Lead Data Ops role covers:

  • Manages outages using BMLL production management process and ITIL principles
  • Troubleshooting and resolving errors in data pipelines
  • Drive improvements in processes, testing, tools, automation, monitoring and systems, leading to ownership of the data operations process
  • Researching and recommending new tools and technologies that could improve daily operations across BMLL
  • Communicating with technical teams at the data owners to solve questions or problems with the data that BMLL consumes
  • Work closely with data engineers to advise on implementation from an Ops standpoint.
  • Act as a trusted advisor/mentor and be required to build relationships, promote best working practices and identify areas for improvement with regards to DataOps Services and Tooling.

There is an element of out-of-hours support in this role.

Requirements

  • Experience of data operations
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills
  • Ability to stay focused and see things through to conclusion
  • Some python scripting experience, preferably on Linux
  • SQL experience
  • Finance experience
  • Experience of dealing with large datasets
