Your Role:
The Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) and Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Officer (AMLCO) is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the compliance and anti-money laundering (AML) programs for Alpaca Crypto. This includes ensuring that the company adheres to all relevant regulatory requirements, implementing policies and procedures to mitigate risks, and providing guidance to the executive team and employees on compliance matters.
Things You Get To Do:
Compliance Program Management:
Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s compliance and AML programs, ensuring adherence to all applicable regulations and industry standards.
Design and enforce compliance policies and procedures, including those related to KYC, OFAC screening, transaction monitoring, and suspicious activity reporting.
Conduct regular compliance risk assessments and audits to identify potential vulnerabilities and recommend corrective actions.
AML and KYC Oversight:
Oversee the company’s KYC process, ensuring that all customer identification and verification procedures are in line with regulatory requirements.
Manage the ongoing monitoring of customer transactions to detect and report suspicious activities.
Supervise the SAR process, including the investigation, documentation, and reporting of suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
Regulatory Liaison:
Serve as the primary point of contact with regulatory bodies, including FinCEN and state regulators, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
Prepare and submit required regulatory filings to relevant authorities.
Stay informed of changes in the regulatory landscape and ensure that the company’s policies and procedures remain compliant.
Training and Education:
Develop and deliver compliance and AML training programs for employees, ensuring that all staff are knowledgeable about the company’s compliance obligations.
Audits:
Lead compliance audits and manage relationships with external auditors, ensuring that all findings are addressed in a timely manner.
Coordinate with other departments, such as IT and Operations, to ensure that compliance controls are effectively integrated into business processes.
Risk Management:
Oversee the company’s transaction monitoring software and other compliance-related tools, including blockchain analytics, OFAC alert systems, and IP address monitoring.
Lead the investigation and escalation of high-risk transactions and activities, ensuring appropriate action is taken.
Collaborate with the financial and IT/IS departments to ensure that all financial and cybersecurity controls are in place and functioning as intended.
Vendor Management:
Conduct due diligence on third-party vendors to ensure that they meet the company’s compliance standards.
Oversee the ongoing monitoring of vendor relationships to mitigate potential compliance risks.
Reporting and Documentation:
Prepare regular compliance reports for the CEO and Board of Directors, highlighting key risks, trends, and areas for improvement.
Maintain comprehensive records of all compliance-related activities, including audit trails, training records, and regulatory communications.

Previous experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment where

Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in compliance, AML, or a related role within the financial services or cryptocurrency industry.
Extensive knowledge of AML regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), OFAC, and FinCEN guidelines.
Proven experience with KYC processes, transaction monitoring, and suspicious activity reporting.
Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and industry best practices for cryptocurrency operations.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and make decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) or similar certification preferred.
Who You Might Be (Nice-To-Haves):
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Law, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree or JD preferred.
