Who We Are

The Greater Valley YMCA (GVYMCA or GVY) is a volunteer-led, nonprofit, community organization. The Y is committed to strengthening community by positively changing lives every day. At each of our branches, we concentrate our efforts in three areas: Healthy Living, Youth Development, and Social Responsibility. And we do so in a way that upholds the Y’s traditional family values of Respect, Responsibility, Caring, and Honesty.

For over 100 years, the Y has made tangible differences in the communities of Allentown, Bethlehem, Catasauqua, Easton, Forks, Nazareth, those comprising the Slate Belt region and the Lehigh Valley as a whole. Founded as individual YMCAs as early as 1897, the following branches of the Greater Valley Y merged together between 2010 and 2015: the Nazareth YMCA, the Suburban North Family YMCA, the Family YMCA of Easton, Phillipsburg & Vicinity and the Bethlehem YMCA. In 2014, the Forks YMCA Education Center was established. The Slate Belt branch was opened in 2015. In January 2017, the Allentown YMCA joined the Greater Valley YMCA.

What We Are Looking For

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Delivers excellent service to all members, guests, and program participants. The person in this role will responds to member and guest needs, promotes memberships, and programs, and maintains cleanliness and organization of the lobby area.

A Day in the Life as a Welcome Center Associate

As a Welcome Center Associate, you will help the GVYMCA by providing excellent customer service. Every day at the Y is different! Generally, Welcome Center Associates are answering member questions, giving tours of our facility, answering phones, taking messages, and servicing our existing membership base, and putting our best foot forward for potential members or members of the community visiting our facility.

Responsibilities As a Welcome Center Associate

• Provides excellent service to members, guests, and program participants in the Y and on the phone, contributing to member retention
• Conduct interviews and/or tours responsive to the needs of prospective members; sells memberships and programs
• Builds relationships with members; helps members connect with one another and the YMCA
• Manages and resolves membership concerns and informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues
• Applies all YMCA policies dealing with member services
• Accurately execute all welcome center procedures
• Performs all sales including membership, program, and merchandise with accuracy into the Membership Operations system, completing a daily shift close-out report at the conclusion of the shift
• Participates in staff meetings
• May monitor the locker rooms as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned

Expected Hours Per Week

• Part-time non-exempt
• multiple shifts available

Pay Range

• $11.00 / hour

Requirements

• Certifications required within thirty (30) days of hire: CPR/AED, and First Aid
• Excellent interpersonal and critical thinking skills
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
• Previous customer service, sales, or related experience
• Basic knowledge of computers.
• Able to effectively communicate and build relationships with Y staff, members, and vendors
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Good customer service skills, high ethical standards, an appropriate professional image, and a team player
• Must possess sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment skills, and a positive attitude
• Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred, but not required

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device
• The employee frequently is required to sit and reach and must be able to move around the work environment
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to ten pounds
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
